The time has come to relieve the beginnings of one of the best space flight simulators saga ever created.

Wing Commander 1+2 is a pack containing the first two parts of the acclaimed space flight and combat simulator series by Origin. With this bundle you’ll get an introduction to the epic military conflict between The Confederation and the Kilrathi. Although the war between humans and Kilrathi has lasted for 20 years already, you're just making your presence. As a young pilot, straight from the academy, you’ll either become humanity’s biggest hero or the biggest zero as you're posted on Confederation's flagship - Tiger's Claw. With a cinematic approach to the storytelling and great 3D gameplay, the Wing Commander series is a must-have for every self-respecting gamer.
I don't believe some people! You get two great games that look and play well even today after 20 years for 5.99 dollars (dollars I say! NOT euros!) and you still find the reason to moan. Enjoy these true classics and SHUT UP!
Fortunately, they changed the gamecard text already. I'll chart the whole thing down as an honest mistake.

cangelo: I'm getting a kick out of people acting like they know what's going on and trying to use legalese to sound smart when they are completely wrong.

Whodares: Oh? Tell us more about your expertise in licensing matters! Clearly you're aware of something the rest of us aren't.
yeah...it's possible I'm aware of something...I worked at Origin in 1991-1994 including when EA bought us out...Still talk to many of my friends in the industry...yes it's funny to hear people use their "professional experience" in trying to explain something they don't have a clue about.

TheDashi: I would have bought Privateer, if it had the expansion, and I would be buying Wing Commander for SURE if they included the expansions.
Hell, I would bay 20 dollars for it all.
But this is just stupid.
Release the entire series, or don't bother....
Go away. Seriously, go somewhere else. I do not want you, or people like you, stopping me from getting good games, because you express dismay over not having every bit of content released to you at the time the game is FINALLY made available to us all.

Go. Far, far away. Do not come back. You're not spending your money here, and I don't want the GOG folks to get any form of idea that people who won't spend money on value in the first place should dictate what those of us who ARE willing to pay money for value can receive for our cash.

... No. I have multiple copies of WC 1&2 - On CD, with all four expansions. EA re-released them a half-dozen times over up till The Kilrathi Saga in 96. And later on, they allowed some gaming magazine to have WC1 on their cover-disc. That was in 2000. Further, that version of WC1 - Adapted from the Kilrathi Saga version, and compatable with the expansions was made freely available last year via the Wing Commander CIC.

So what you get for your money, is an inferior version of one game you can get for free elsewhere, and the castrated version of another.

Go to hell... of you like such "low" language and "low" discussion. WC1 is available for FREE and it's LEGAL so we must to pay for WC2 only. Selling this 20 year old(!) game without expansion is an outrage. I'm not buying that story about licensing - somebody is just greedy. I don't care who, EA or GOG, but they all will lose both our money and trust.

It could be to do with licensing. Most likely (I'd think), the sound, as some composers apparently retain rights to the music.

Also... An outrage? Thats going a couple of steps too far.

I don't believe you can get them from the CIC for free. At least according to the CIC website, they are celebrating the re-release on GOG. If you can get it for free from them, where is it? I couldn't find it easily on their website.

About three-quarters down this page: http://www.wcnews.com/news/3962

Then nab Secret Missions from the files section.

Edit: Also of course they're celebrating - The CIC seems to be made up of crazed optimists. Anyways, despite my grumpiness about the incomplete nature of the release, any release at all is great news - Also, the better it sells, the more likely EA are to revive the series.

Interesting ... thanks for the link! I wonder how they got the rights from PC Gamer/EA? You should send a message to GOG with that info (if they haven't seen it already from this thread). What kind of machine are you running that version on? Do you have it working on Windows 7 or Vista?

We all have the right to be grumpy. :)

So then can you shed any light on what the holdup might be?

I've only played WC2 and I enjoyed it even though I never finished it. My copy was coupled with Ultima VI on a single CD and came with the U6 manual and map, "Tiger's Claw" magazine (which I'm assuming is at least part of the "WC Bible" on the game page) and blue prints.

Will have to grab this sometime.

EDIT: Definitely grabbing DK2 sometime, too.

I'm so excited for these games. I never got to play them when they came out originally. Now all I need is the time to play them.

Notice the part where I originally explained I work in a different industry, and I was making an educated guess as to what's holding things up based on things I've seen in my field. I realize things are different depending on the industry, but generally, many of the variables remain the same (copyright law).

Nowhere in my post or any of the other posts I saw taking a crack at the subject claimed to be completely correct about what the hold up was. We all took (I'd say) pretty educated guesses as to what's going on rather than going with the usual, "EA SUXS!".

I imagine, you have as much of an idea as to whats going on as the rest of us even though you claim to have worked for Origin in the early 90's. I say this because rather than try to politely interject that it's something we're not aware of or at least try to explain the nuances of this process without mentioning specifics, you chose to make a pretty weak post mocking people who were adding constructive perspectives as to what might be going on rather than carry on with the, "well this sucks" banter.

[sarcasm]Thanks for participating! [/sarcasm]
