The time has come to relieve the beginnings of one of the best space flight simulators saga ever created.

Wing Commander 1+2 is a pack containing the first two parts of the acclaimed space flight and combat simulator series by Origin. With this bundle you’ll get an introduction to the epic military conflict between The Confederation and the Kilrathi. Although the war between humans and Kilrathi has lasted for 20 years already, you're just making your presence. As a young pilot, straight from the academy, you’ll either become humanity’s biggest hero or the biggest zero as you're posted on Confederation's flagship - Tiger's Claw. With a cinematic approach to the storytelling and great 3D gameplay, the Wing Commander series is a must-have for every self-respecting gamer.
While I'm happy to see this awesome classic on GoG, it's disappointing to see EA didn't allow GoG to include the speech and mission packs. Hopefully that will be rectified soon.
Got it but after playing it I am a bit disapointed, GOG should have gone with the Kilrathi Saga version.

wvpr: I always thought of MT-32 as that weird setting games used when they wanted all the sound effects to become musical instruments. Watching this video was eye-opening.

Color me disturbed. As a fan of the SNES version, I had my suspicions that the original DOS version outstripped it in every way, but no...most of the graphics are identical, though the DOS version's animations are much better. The sound, though! I can't believe the SNES version had better sound! At the very least, I've grown so used to the music syncing to certain things that the video was nothing short of jarring.

I gotta ask. Is that just an idiosyncrasy of the MT-32 sound output? Is it possible to play this game with the music syncing properly (or at least like the SNES version - forgive my biased viewpoint!)?
The syncing could be a result of emulation. I certainly don't remember it missing cues that much the first time around, although it did happen sometimes.

The instruments sound as good as most PC MIDI back then, although the instrumentation is a little sparse compared to something like Privateer or Strike Commander. I prefer the gentler sound compared to what I'm hearing in this SNES clip.

This was one of the first PC games to really push sound cards, so the effects weren't as elaborate as what we're used to. What got my attention was that the MT-32 effects were actual effects. If you tried using MT-32 settings with General MIDI cards, the music usually sounded good, but all the sound effects were replaced by instrument samples. Imagine swords sounding like horns and explosions sounding like drums. The clip makes it clear that with an actual MT-32 attached, the effects were uploaded as custom samples to replace the generic instruments.
Well, possible good news ahead!

Well, that certainly sounds promising. I hope it works out, too!
How about the Kilrathi Saga versions too? :-P

Right now, it's a hard pill to swallow this and DK2. I really hope GOG can be even better by this time next year.

Nice find! Let's hope this plan he alludes to works out. I'd rather have the expansions sooner (preferably this year) than later.

Set Chrstmas Sale as the critical moment and you'll feel nice and relaxed.
Was very glad to see this collection here. These are games every gamer should play IMO, and once you get over the primitive graphics they are still very enjoyable.

In my eyes the EA deal is so far proving to be the best thing to happen to GOG since Activision/Sierra joined. It may even beat that.

It helps that they are only primitive in their technology. Artistically they're as good as anything from the VGA era.

I regret reading your post. Do you offer a refund?
Does anybody know if this version supports the Secret Missions (1 & 2) and Special Ops (1 & 2) addons?

They were available for a time on the Origin website to be applied to the Kilrathi Saga set for free. Some of us game hoarders still have them. :)

Those patches were meant for Kilrathi Saga only not the dos version of WC 1+2 which this is. They are working on getting the original addons available. Check www.wcnews.com for details

I REALLLLLLY hope this works out! I wanna play the expansions sooo bad! IMO secret missions 1 had a superior story to the original WC1 anyway. I never played secret missions 2 though.

So, GOG guys, if youre reading this, can you tell us anything about this "plan" he speaks of?
