Mooooreee! That was your reaction when we released Ultima Underworld 1+2, it was the same when we gave you Ultima 1+2+3 and Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar (for free!). And you guys especially know that all we ever want to do is keep you guys happy, so without further ado, we bring you the Age of Enlightenment games of the fantastic Ultima series!

Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar is already released and available for free on GOG.com. You can read the description of the game in the previous news post. Why is it included in this game pack? Well, the Ultima series</a> breaks down into three trilogies, and it seemed a shame to break up the lovely symmetry.

Ultima 5: Warriors of Destiny picks up on the story of the Avatar, the hero of Britannia. The country’s benevolent monarch is nowhere to be found, and an usurper named Lord Blackthorn has claimed the throne! It’s your duty as the embodiment of the Eight Virtues to make all wrongs right and recover the world of Britannia from the paws of Blackthorn and his three evil Shadowlords! This installation of the Ultima series expands on the world of Ultima 4 in a number of ways: towns are larger, have more unique buildings, and NPC interaction has evolved. With enhanced dialogues, diverse conversation topics, and a diverse array of characters, Ultima V shows that Lord British kept raising the bar for games looking to call themselves an “RPG.” The day and night cycle affects the gameplay. For example you can’t shop at night because the NPC shopkeepers are asleep! Delve into the world of Britannia and save its inhabitants & moral codex!

Ultima 6: The False Prophet starts out with a bang! You, the Avatar, are captured by demons, imprisoned, and ready to be sacrificed on an altar. Like in all those Hollywood movies, in the nick of time your friends from earlier adventures come in guns a-blazing to save you! You learn that those demon-like creatures are gargoyles, a new race that invaded Britannia and have seized the shrines of Virtue. As you venture forth on your next adventure as the Avatar, you try to understand the true motivations of gargoyles. As the embodiment of the Eight Virtues, the Avatar will understand that his mission is to establish peace and make the two races coexist in Britannia peacefully. Ultima 6 is a one of a kind game which, without over imposing it on the player, tells a story of the evil of human prejudice and ignorance. This is where the motto of Origin Systems, “We create worlds”, is best visible and it really steps up to its name!

Play the full “second” trilogy of Ultima 4+5+6! Now available DRM-free on GOG.com for $5.99.

Note: The character import function does not work yet, but we are doing everything we can to find a solution to this problem and we will update the game as soon as we can get it worked out.

TheCycoONE: With the U5 music patch does it matter? Adds the C128/Apple II music to the pc version: http://exodus.voyd.net/ultima5.html
Oh, very cool! Thanks for the link!
Wishlisted. While I think the first 3 games in the series are a little too old for my tastes, Ultima 5 and 6 will probably not be. Of course, it seems obvious what the next release is going to be, unless GOG is trolling us and won't release Ultima VII until later.
Please, be the last game Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. :'(

HertogJan: Ultima 4 is 25 MB, Ultima 4+5+6 is 14 MB.
What's the difference between Ultima 4 in the package and the fre Ultima 4.

Nice to see an EA title with more extras than just a manual.
Probably the inclusion of the manual in the standalone U4.

quakeaddict: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I waited MONTHS for Ultima. Now it's here. :D:D:D:D:D:D

PLEASE release the rest in a pack on Tuesday. :D:D:D:D:D

GOG, you literally just made my day.
I've been waiting a while for these myself.
It will be a grand day when I get the money in which to buy them :D

LordRikerQ: Because I can get 4 for free on the same website, but I have to pay for the price of 3 games still if I want 5+6, thats how. Its simple economics, inserting a free product into the 3 pack and charging the full price of 3 packs is lowering its value.
What you're missing is that there isn't a law of simple economics stating that "One pack of three games is worth six dollars", but that's the assumption you seem to be making.

I'm pretty sure people expected GOG to release 5+6 for $5.99. And they did, with the only difference that they added 4 to the pack too. That is just a convenience for those wanting to play all three games, otherwise it's exactly the same deal. The fact that they added a free game to the pack does not lower its value. Dividing it into groups of three is a bit more aesthetically pleasing, and a bit more convenient for many, so it could be argued that it gives the pack slightly higher value - but certainly not lower.

I'd say that all this isn't a matter of simple economics - rather it's a matter of psychology. The addition of a free game to the pack makes you think that you're paying for a free game, when in fact you're doing no such thing. The price is exactly the same as it would have been if the game wouldn't have been there.
I think 5+6+7 would have been a better deal. So is 7 going to be on it's own, or 7+8? And then 9 on its own for 10$ right.

it says triologies so one can assume its 1+2+3, 4+5+6 and 7+8+9
Tempting... More for Ultima VI than V. U5 whilst a very good game I had problems getting into it, there was... Something missing, not sure what... Whereas U6 (I feel) still looks alright today, has a good, engaging story, and cements everything in Brittania for Ultima VII - A game that will remain in me Top 10 favourite games probably for all time.(Mind, I do wonder what the U7 release will be like here? Just the base game? With the expansion? With Serpent Isle? With SI's expansion? All the above for $9.99?)

My money is on (Please!!!!) Having U7, SI and both expansions only up next, possibly including U8, but then again, possibly not. Then having U9 seperate at the end.

It would be far more exciting if 5 and 6 worked without all the messing around required. Part of what I like about GOG's releases is that they tend to eliminate the tapdance required by emulators.

So, only one more game from EA (possibly Lands of Lore) and then we are getting King's Bounty: Armored Princess plus patch to The Legend, right?

:D ;)
I might buy this one eventually. Not the first trilogy ( these were already obsolete when I discovered PC gaming, somewhere back in the 80's ... ). So when do we get the third trilogy ? Or shall we get 7 , 8 & 9 as separate installments ?

Lands of lore ? That would be great too. LoL2 even more I'd say .
Wasn't the original box art good enough for the Games Explorer icons? looks horrible!

Sorry, Crusader first. :D

AB would be nice, but only with that Crossworlds expansion. And that's kinda new. ;)

Phc7006: Lands of lore ?
This is the only game mentioned by them and not released so far.
