‘This traytur name is Robyn Hode,
Under the grene-wode lynde;

-Arthur Quiller-Couch, ed. (1863–1944). The Oxford Book of Ballads. 1910

If you’re a fan of either stealth tactical combat or green tights and goatees, you will love the fact that we have just released Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood for $9.99 into digital woods of GOG.com.

The good King Richard is held prisoner, the evil Prince John tyrannizes the people, and you’re the only person who can change things for better. As Robin of Sherwood, the legendary outlaw, you will face the Prince and and his minions with a fistful of arrows and a heart full of courage. However, a small group of merry men (+ Maid Marian) with special abilities and attributes will help you explore, infiltrate, and complete several types of missions in historic locations such as Sherwood Forest, Nottingham Castle, Lincoln, York, Leicester, and Derby.

Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood was developed by the studio that also created Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive and Desperados 2: Cooper’s Revenge. It combines strategy, ambush, spying, infiltration, and hand-to-hand combat perfectly and delivers it within a simple and highly intuitive interface. Missions range from robbery and infiltration to “castle attack,” and ambush, and they fully utilize all nine characters’ specific abilities. The world of XII-th century England is alive and visually spectacular with beautifully rendered graphics, detailed environments, and realistic atmospheric conditions like day, night, and fog. However, the best thing Robin Hood has to offer is a great authentic feeling of being the most righteous thief in human history.

Anyone who’s into team-based strategies or is interested in the legend of Robin Hood will more than likely enjoy the game, especially when it’s a DRM-free, packed-with-goodies GOG.com release for only $9.99.
I remember this, wishlisted now

tburger: Hmmm....

[EDIT]

I would rather see Defender of the Crown...
The vintage 1986 dos version, the 1992 "DOC II" for Amiga ( in my view the best version ) or the 2007 Windows remake ?

you can play the later for free for 60 minutes

I was pretty sure this game has already been on GOG... or was it some other Commandos clone?

The game you're thinking of is Desperados. I think Robin Hood: LoS is better; definitely a good strategic, isometric lazy-Sunday time-waster.

While Robin Hood: LoS is a good game, definitely GOG-esque, I'd already bought it ages ago at DotEmu. It's not really worth paying more than $5 or $6 for it, which is why I waited for it to go on sale there.
Robin Hood and Commandos?

Sounds good.
Now we miss only Chigaco 1930 in the catalogue.
Looks good. Not exactly an insta-buy. But definitely wish listed.

It is available elsewhere DRM-free. So GOG better pick up the pace on that one.

I haven't played this game, but I really like Commandos and Desperados. So I'll probably get this at some point.

delboy2k10: I believe the CGA and EGA versions were free on the cinemaware website a few years back, and since the re-issue to iPAD they have been removed :-(
Yeah, I knew that. Still it's a shame Cinemaware classics are not here. Sure they are no blockbusters but I would gladly buy DotC, It came from the desert or Rocket Ranger.

Not exactly ...we miss a lot of things from DotEmu catalog...
Nice release. I was hoping GOG would get it too. From what I've read it is a good introduction to the gameplay in the Commandos series and Desperados.

Amiga version pretty please.. But seriously (as it is not possible) - DOS version would suffice.
I've spent long time playing DotC on my C64 using cassette tape..10 minutes of loading and then 3 minutes of tournament, after that 10 minutes of loading 3 minutes of castle siege…Good times :-)
No Kain yet, hey? Well, at least people seem to be happy with this one.
What's the deal with all the reviewers complaining about the price.

You're supposed to review what the actual game is like, whether it is good or bad in itself, possibly comparing it to other similar games. I've never played this game and I don't want to read a bunch of whinos with nothing better to say than "$9.99 too much! I prefer COD for $100"

If you don't like the price, don't buy it. If everyone agrees with you then GOG may make it cheaper at some point, unless the price is set by the publisher.

Of course, I was talking rather about commandos clones, not games in general.
