This time, it's personal...

Agent 47 is continuing his assault on GOG.com’s catalogue: grab the second installment of the Hitman series for only $9.99!

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin continues the story of the genetically-engineered assassin-for-hire Agent 47. Nowadays he tries to distance himself from his twisted past and has become a humble church gardener. He gets entangled into a diabolical plot by a Russian crime boss when his friend, a priest, gets kidnapped. To try and save the innocent priest, Agent 47 finds himself at the beck and call of a dangerous man, and he must find a way to not only fulfill his missions, but also strike back against the gang boss who holds his leash.
.
Apart from the obvious grief and the lust for revenge, you'll get what the titular hitman is best known for: a large weapon arsenal at your disposal with multiple special hidden weapons scattered across the open-ended levels. These huge levels, each one designed as a separate sandbox, let you experiment with your approach to killing your targets. No matter how bizarre your disguise or how elaborate your approach, the end goal is simple: eliminate the target.

The Silent Assassin streamlines the gameplay and improves over its predecessor in almost every regard. The AI system has been revamped to develop new patterns and behaviours. For all the completionists and achievement addicts, now at the end of each mission you get a score ranging from a Mass Murderer (achieved for mowing down enemies and just getting the job done) to the Silent Assassin who stealths his way to the target and eliminates him without anyone noticing.

So whether you're a run and gun fanatic or you'd like to compare Agents 47’s sneaking abilities to Garret’s, now is the perfect time to pickup this masterpiece for a mere $9.99!
I would like to report that unlike my cd versions, the GOG version works on my computer.

I had completely forgotten how paranoid those guards are, but I finally managed to get a silent assassin ranking in the first mission. I guess I've gained patience.

serpantino: Those who don't have a steam phobia would be best off waiting. Every recent steam sale has had pretty much the entire hitman series for a combined price of less than this.

spinefarm: We have no phobia with Steam...we just have an issue with the part paying for games and don't really own them ;)
Buut you never truly own a game ;)
Only a licence

There's a thread on the forum right now that shows you that you clearly by a license of the game here on Gog, they don't 'sell the game'. You should work on your concept of 'owning' something.

Actually you do own the games from GOG. When u remove ur download manager... it doesn't remove ur games... Steam does that ;)

If I pirate it, nothing removes my game either. It doesn't mean I own it.

I get your idea fine, but you're just using the wrong terminology to describe it. Steam or Gog, on neither place do you 'own' the game you buy. At both places you buy a license. The difference is that in Gog's case, even if the license was revoked, they would have no means of enforcing that, whereas on Steam, they do.

The point is that you don't need to backup your acount on GOG to keep the games on your HDD... Steam have issues with that point ;)

I agree. I think the two rigid price points complicate matters a lot, and I said so in the survey.

All the Eidos release threads so far have been echoing very similar sentiments, so I'm pretty sure GOG have gotten the message by now. And perhaps we're all wrong here; GOG has the sales figures, we don't.

What OS are you running? I've always found my disk copy of Hitman 2 to be real crashy, even on XP. I kind of suspected the copy protection might have something to do with it, but could never really prove it.

For me part of the point of buying games digitally is not having to keep media around in the first place, so that part kind of suits me fine?

Please take this discussion to the appropriate thread. Thank you.

Lexor: I can't understand when people saying once "GOG we need this game" and after release "GOG your price is too high".
The attitude you speak of is why we can't have nice things. Gamer entitlement - gotta love it.

So let's make this clear. I will love lower prices don't get me wrong. But actually GOG is one of the fewer digital sellers with no regional pricing. For me that is good enough.
I don't like Steam exactly on that point... $ is not equal to Euro ffs... and still they sell it like that...

I've mentioned this before and I think things like this are just highlighting it. The more popular Gog becomes the more unlikely it is that it'll be sustainable in it's current form in my opinion.

Gog is great, for the things you can't get anywhere else and I love them for working on releasing those hard to get games, but the more popular it becomes, the more likely the older games are to be rereleased not just here, but on other platforms as well. And with the current price/sales strategy that Gog has, that means they aren't really that competitive on games that share platforms.

In the long run the site will have to change I think, or it'll be restricted to people who really only come here for the Goodie/DRM-free aspect of it, because the price likely won't be it without some changes.

Just deal with it - you are getting DRM-free game and that is very important thing, do not compare with any other digital distributor. If I want the game badly or the game is good I would try to do anything to save some money for it.

cogadh: What gave you that idea? To my knowledge, all disk versions of the game include some form of copy protection/DRM (a mix of SecuROM and SafeDisk). That makes it an issue for most people who are opposed to such things.
what? a simple disc check counts as intrusive DRM now? haven't we lived peacefully with disc checks for 15 years?

also, often re-releases such as budget-priced collections don't even have a disc check.

at any rate, it isn't like the Hitman games would have to be activated online, have limited install tokens, etc.
