This time, it's personal...

Agent 47 is continuing his assault on GOG.com’s catalogue: grab the second installment of the Hitman series for only $9.99!

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin continues the story of the genetically-engineered assassin-for-hire Agent 47. Nowadays he tries to distance himself from his twisted past and has become a humble church gardener. He gets entangled into a diabolical plot by a Russian crime boss when his friend, a priest, gets kidnapped. To try and save the innocent priest, Agent 47 finds himself at the beck and call of a dangerous man, and he must find a way to not only fulfill his missions, but also strike back against the gang boss who holds his leash.
.
Apart from the obvious grief and the lust for revenge, you'll get what the titular hitman is best known for: a large weapon arsenal at your disposal with multiple special hidden weapons scattered across the open-ended levels. These huge levels, each one designed as a separate sandbox, let you experiment with your approach to killing your targets. No matter how bizarre your disguise or how elaborate your approach, the end goal is simple: eliminate the target.

The Silent Assassin streamlines the gameplay and improves over its predecessor in almost every regard. The AI system has been revamped to develop new patterns and behaviours. For all the completionists and achievement addicts, now at the end of each mission you get a score ranging from a Mass Murderer (achieved for mowing down enemies and just getting the job done) to the Silent Assassin who stealths his way to the target and eliminates him without anyone noticing.

So whether you're a run and gun fanatic or you'd like to compare Agents 47’s sneaking abilities to Garret’s, now is the perfect time to pickup this masterpiece for a mere $9.99!

GOG does not look as visually appealing as GoG

the $9.99 price point per individual game wouldn't be all that much of an issue if GoG also offered bundles.

let's face it: by the time Blood Money gets here (if it does) the entire Hitman series costs you $36. that's provided GoG somehow manages to get the elusive Contracts as well. but you can easily buy the Quadrilogy - uncut, sealed and delivered - off Ebay UK sellers for a third of that or less. compatibility and DRM are non-issues in this case.

GoG could counter that by offering the Hitman games in a bundle. "buy all 3 or 4, save a third or half." something like that.
Thanks Overread. That is why I do it.

I don't know why I am even involved to be honest. I don't like the games. Not interested in anything from SE anyway.

It's way too much money though for what they are.
So let's see now the prices around the stores:
Steam - 9,99€ (13.2 $)
GamersGate - €9.99 (13.2 $)
Eidos store - £5.99 (9.4 $)

And you are saying what boys and girls?

Then go buy them from UK Ebay sellers...

That you're missing the point. The other retailers have bundles, in which you basically get 3 Hitman games for the price of 2. And these bundles also go on sale sometimes. 66% off, even 75% off in some cases (I just checked the history of Steam Hitman Collection sales).

60% off $20 = $8
75% off $20 = $5

GOG promos rarely, if ever, go above 60%, therefore:

60% off $30 = $12

All for the same three games. Pretty simple math, isn't it?

The pricing of individual games absolutely isn't GOG's fault, nor is the fact that many old Eidos games have been widely available for years now. The lack of bundle pricing is, though.

EDIT: Oh, the first Hitman game is actually $6 here, so the math doesn't check out so nicely. The principle still applies, though.

What gave you that idea? To my knowledge, all disk versions of the game include some form of copy protection/DRM (a mix of SecuROM and SafeDisk). That makes it an issue for most people who are opposed to such things.

Actually you are wrong. For instances the 3 game bundle on Steam
The Hitman Collection 19,99€ (31.36 $)
It's is higher priced than 3 x 9.99$ games here and it still have a DRM.
Yes Steam makes good deals on sale.. but actually you don't own ur games there... That's enough for me.

20 Euros is currently some USD 26.34, where did you get that figure?

But yes, regional pricing complicates things a lot.

overread: Actually I'd rather prefer that they did sell for higher prices. The likes of Steam and online distribution has pushed and pushed for a faster devaluing of the game product. The more this happens and the more we devalue games the harder they become to develop. Games are already pretty much a make or break in their opening months after release - thereafter if the investment hasn't paid off the company folds/moves on - which is a killer for those game franchises that have a smaller market share.

Yes I like cheap -I won't ever say that I don't like buying the same product for less cost -- but on the other side of the coin I don't mind saving a tiny bit longer (£5 to £10 is not a big jump)
Fair point, however I feel that it doesn't apply for games reaching the 10 years old mark. As you point out the opening months are critical for a games sales and the developers continued productivity, but applying that logic to a successful 10 year old game just doesn't hold up.

As I said, given the way the way the market is the I suspect the industry needs to adapt a little. However, as I've also said I'm not really into Hitman and might have been willing to fork out for the Nomad Soul.

I don't agree with bringing up sale prices when talking about the launch price of a title (we have no guarantee of another good Steam-sale for instance - it might be probable but we don't know for certain) but I do agree that GOG lacks bundles in their regular pricing model. But I wonder if that isn't the fault of a vocal segment of the GOG community.

Back when there was that survey we answered semi-recently I remember the absolute outcry there was from some people when GOG asked about the possibility of bringing in more price points and selling games at other prices than $5.99 or $9.99.

I thought it was a great idea - both for a lower price point for single games from like the early 80's or something that might be hard to sell at even six dollars, and for a higher price point for things like bundles of games that doesn't fit into the $9.99 price point. As it is now there are bundles on GOG, but only if they can fit into six or ten dollars, which obviously is hard for games that are now sold at ten dollars.

But from what I remember the comments were filled with people screaming emphatic "NO" to price points beyond the 6-10 dollar range, with a lot of people going "You just want to raise prices, $5.99&$9.99 is part of what defines GOG, don't you ever introduce any other prices!"

In the face of that I guess it can be hard for GOG to bundle games that are sold at ten dollars+ individually at all other major digital distributors. They can't make a bundle costing $9.99 with several Hitman-games, the publisher would never allow that, and they can't make a $20 dollar bundle because then people get upset that a higher price point has been added and people will go "If we can have three great Space Quest games in one bundle for 10 dollars, why did you have to introduce an even higher price for this bundle? This is the beginning of the end for GOG, your six and ten dollar prices were everything I came here for, now you'll raise prices and everything is going to hell!"

That's at least my take on it, and how I feel that some of the vocal GOG community members react to stuff :)
Those who don't have a steam phobia would be best off waiting. Every recent steam sale has had pretty much the entire hitman series for a combined price of less than this.

We have no phobia with Steam...we just have an issue with the part paying for games and don't really own them ;)
