This time, it's personal...

Agent 47 is continuing his assault on GOG.com’s catalogue: grab the second installment of the Hitman series for only $9.99!

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin continues the story of the genetically-engineered assassin-for-hire Agent 47. Nowadays he tries to distance himself from his twisted past and has become a humble church gardener. He gets entangled into a diabolical plot by a Russian crime boss when his friend, a priest, gets kidnapped. To try and save the innocent priest, Agent 47 finds himself at the beck and call of a dangerous man, and he must find a way to not only fulfill his missions, but also strike back against the gang boss who holds his leash.
.
Apart from the obvious grief and the lust for revenge, you'll get what the titular hitman is best known for: a large weapon arsenal at your disposal with multiple special hidden weapons scattered across the open-ended levels. These huge levels, each one designed as a separate sandbox, let you experiment with your approach to killing your targets. No matter how bizarre your disguise or how elaborate your approach, the end goal is simple: eliminate the target.

The Silent Assassin streamlines the gameplay and improves over its predecessor in almost every regard. The AI system has been revamped to develop new patterns and behaviours. For all the completionists and achievement addicts, now at the end of each mission you get a score ranging from a Mass Murderer (achieved for mowing down enemies and just getting the job done) to the Silent Assassin who stealths his way to the target and eliminates him without anyone noticing.

So whether you're a run and gun fanatic or you'd like to compare Agents 47’s sneaking abilities to Garret’s, now is the perfect time to pickup this masterpiece for a mere $9.99!
GOG,

Is the dynamic advertising active in this game, or is this boilerplate that is used for all Square Enix games, past and present?

5. Usage Data

Without prejudice to paragraph 4 above, we may from time to time during your gameplay collect non-personally identifiable information about your hardware system including how you are using the Software Product. This information may also include your internet protocol (I.P.) address (a numeric number assigned by your internet service provider to identify your PC). This information may be used not only to help you play the game on the Software Product over the Internet (where the Software Product contains Online Features) but also to help us better understand how our customers are using the game, their behaviour and preferences, so that we can improve our computer games and services in the future. This information will not, however, be used to personally identify you without you being aware of it and without your further, separate consent having been given.

6. In-Game Advertising

The Software Product may incorporate technology (which may be provided by Square Enix or third party service providers engaged by Square Enix (each a "Dynamic Advertising Provider")) which enables advertising to be uploaded into the Software Product on your PC, and changed while the Software Product is being played on-line. In order that the Dynamic Advertising Provider is able to direct advertising appropriate to your Software Product and geographic region, as well as to the correct location within the computer game, certain non-personally identifiable data and information may be retrieved and retained by the Dynamic Advertising Provider including your I.P. address, geographic location, in-game position, and information concerning the appearance of advertising visible during your gameplay (for example, the length of time an item of advertising was visible, the dimensions of the advertisements). In addition, the Dynamic Advertising Provider may assign a unique identification number which is stored on your PC and which is used to monitor and calculate the number of views of dynamic advertising during gameplay. None of the information collected for this purpose including the identification number can be used to identify you.

The technology employed by Dynamic Advertising Providers may be located outside your country of residence (including outside of the European Union).

Where a Software Product incorporates dynamic advertising technology, the technology which serves the provision of dynamic in-game advertising is integrated within the Software Product. This means that if you do not want to receive dynamic advertising, you should only play the game when you are not connected to the Internet.
I can't understand when people saying once "GOG we need this game" and after release "GOG your price is too high". Just deal with it - you are getting DRM-free game and that is very important thing, do not compare with any other digital distributor. If I want the game badly or the game is good I would try to do anything to save some money for it.

keeveek: $9.99 ? Sorry, I've bought hitman quadrology for $9.99.
Hitman PL, right? And this is English version - that's big difference. Why? PL version can not be exported, EN one is worldwide.

i want omikron and anarchronox so a pass for me :(
Seems to me that GOG could only get Square onboard by agreeing to pricing the games too high, a shame... Mind, I doubt I would have picked up the Hitman series anyway, its never appealed...

The same. I just hope they don't have Starforce, but I bought it anyways as apparently they don't seem to require online authentication. At least internet connection was not mentioned in game requirements.

I might still buy GOG versions from sale for the sake of CD-free and hassle-free use.

You know, i was really excited about having square enix on board but if all they are going to do is charge $9.99 for most of these 10 year old games that can be picked up on amazon or steam cheaper, Yeah i'm going to pass on there games.

Don't get me wrong, gog provide a fantastic service (DRM free) so it's not there fault, but too many publishers are charging the full $9.99 and it's unacceptable when they clearly provide these games cheaper on other digital distrubtion services. Why can they not do the same on GoG?

A bit sad that the soundtracks aren't included in the extras... :(

I have the English "Hitman Collection", with the four Hitman games (I paid about 6€ for it new (shrinkwrapped), but it was a bundle). Separately it would have cost 9.90€ for the Hitman collection.

But I do feel it was a steal, not a price I would have expected for four such nice games.

Yah, I think I'll subscribe to this point of view even though I know people are going to crop up bitching about how we're being ungrateful and we should be supporting DRM-free software.

$9.99 is just too expensive. Hell, I paid €10 for Hitman 2, in German, back in 2005. That was DRM-free as well. Ánd seeing as I already have a DRM-free copy, I can probably buy Hitman 2 off Steam for a fraction of the price when it goes on sale again (and you know it will when the next game comes out).

Not a bad game by any accounts though.

(Funnily enough, the abovementioned "Hitman Collection" here in Germany only has three games. The first one is missing due to its being blacklisted).

Same as Tpiom. I wouldn't mind too much for the price if the "packaging" was nice but the extras aren't that much engaging. This is however a great game.

Cheaper at other digital distributors? I checked the price on Gamer's Gate and Steam; 2 of the most popular DD service out there. The price on Steam is $9.99 and Gamer's Gate is $9.95. So i just don't get it.
And like i mentioned before on TopWare sales; Two Worlds Epic Edition on GOG priced 2x lower than Steam version. But not many people give credit to them for able to tied that deal.
Bought it. That makes this my 3rd legit copy of this. This is one of the few games I had a pirated copy of at some point, and that's just because some guy punched me in the eye and felt bad about it so he gave me one as an apology or something.

Anyway, I've always had problems with the legal copies, like them refusing to install if I didn't use shady tricks like add the whole cd into a zip, then run the installer from inside that zip (found this trick after hours of frustration). Funky stuff. Then the cd version just doesn't work properly on my modern machines.

If the GOG version works properly, I think it's well worth the $9.99 price.

Wishbone: GOG does not decide the price point, the publisher does.

Fred_DM: not the point. customers don't care who decides the price.
Yes, it is the point. Saying "GOG sets the price too high" is wrong when GOG does not set the price. Saying simply "The price is too high" is perfectly acceptable though.

Generally, GOG does all it can to get the publishers to be reasonable with the price points, but they don't always succeed. Some publishers are just dicks about it *coughUbisoft!cough*, but in those cases, GOG has the choice to sell the game at the higher price point, or not sell the game at all. They tend to choose the former option, for obvious reasons.
Sadly the Hitman games don't appeal to me at all and at 9.99 with no soundtrack I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed for GOG's next releases.

To me $9.99 is a fair price, just like Wormholewizards said same price as Steam and GG. You get DRM free digital download with a separate installer. Why would gog have a price point that's lower? Their also could be other factors to other square enix games not being released, like trouble getting it windows 7 compatible.
