Trapped in a frozen hell, you must investigate the cold darkness of the human psyche.

The story, the atmosphere, the graphics, and the sound of the great adventure horror game Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason will chill you to the bone for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

The North Wind, a nuclear ice-breaker stuck in the ice somewhere near the Arctic Circle, is a frozen coffin. What happened to the ship and its crew is beyond normal human cognition. You’re not alone and the North Wind is now plagued by dead crewmen who have undergone a strange metamorphosis due to the effects of the very cold climate. Using your mysterious ‘Mental Echo’ ability, you must dig deep in the chilling story of the ship and relive the final moments of its crew. The horrors contained in the Arctic cold will not let you bring the ship back to life without a fight.

Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason plays from the first person perspective for moving, shooting, and exploring the world, but don't mistake this for an FPS; the horror adventure part of the game shows itself clearly when it comes to building tension, unraveling frosty cold secrets, and using time travel in innovative ways. When you find corpses of crew members, you may be transported back in time due to the 'Mental Echo' of the terrible events that led to their death and then not only change the course of history and save the poor soul's life, but also change the present as well. The graphics make use of the PhysX engine by Nvidia and are stunning: there’s frost on the walls, ice melts into water, shadows lurk, lights flicker, and the overall cold and dark art design makes the trip through North Wind an alienating and chilling experience.

This is not your usual horror game--if you appreciate slow-burning suspense and terrific storytelling, playing Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason is like reading a great Sci-Fi novel for only $9.99 on GOG.com.
Would you recommend this to someone who loved Amnesia and Penumbra?
It looks interesting.
I played the demo on Amazon, it was fun but REALY buggy, and framerate chugged throughout. Is that all fixed in the gog release?
low rated
the hell is this...

where the hell are sim city 3000 , theme hospital and anachronox?
Good release.
Wishlisted but I don't think I'll be getting it soon. It's been on sale many times for like €2 even DRM-free and I've passed it. Now that it's on GOG I might get it but I'll probably wait for a discount.
Have it on disc, fairly sure it is DRM free. Never played it. Silly me!
I'm just wondering if the official patch featuring special features for owners of Nvidia cards is already included, or if you have to install it manually OR whether it is compatible with the GOG release at all. As far as I remember it added a special weapon to the game that shoots "impressively looking" water. I really wouldn't like to play the game without that stuff.

I bought the game a long time ago but I stopped playing it after less than two hours because of the bad performance on my Radeon HD 4950. I'd love to pick it up on GOG once I have a new graphics card (which is definitely going to be a GeForce), but only if the content mentioned above is included or at least compatible.

Being a huge fan of horror games I'd really feel bad missing this title.

Edit: Now that I think about it I'm not completely sure if the bad performance hadn't occurred on my previous graphics card (a GeForce GS 8600).

keeveek: ...and anachronox?
Very unlikely that one will get released as the last set of Nvidia drivers it worked with were 258.96. All subsequent drivers had the option which is required to run Anachronox removed. So unless someone solves that issue, don't hold your breath.

Still nice to see Cryostatis available from yet another source. I won't be buying it though as I already own an retail copy as well as a copy on GamersGate (as that one was compatible with the Physx patch, while my retail copy was not).

serpantino: Ugh. Silly GOG. You have a huge list of good OLD games that people have been chomping at the bit to get. You spend ages teasing & hyping up new publishers, prior to them appearing on GOG. Then you release a few games from those publishers with a couple of big deal games in there and then go back to misc stuff. I don't care if you have a BIG game coming on Thursday, you have access to lots of big games people want that you haven't released yet.
You heard the guy, GOG. Take this game out or else...
Vivisector and Chasm still don't come,Cryostasis appeared.

same thing for me. I was getting as low as 10 fps in the same demo, and I heard this game ran poorly on a pretty high percentage of computers. I'm interested in the game because I heard it's good if you can run it well, but the demo turned me off.

I don't want the game taken out. Though I do dislike the whole bundling new games and old games together, mish mash. I just want GOG to try listening to the user base again and actually releasing stuff people have been asking for, for ages instead of random stuff. They make a massive deal over getting new publishers then they release a tiny quantity of the publisher's massive back catalogue and then go back to releasing random & relatively unheard of games.
Don't listen to shitty reviews, this game is badass, and the atmosphere is phenomenal !
I don't mind the game being new, especially if it's an underrated gem.

Seriously, this game looks awesome.
Woah, totally unexpected. Wishlisted for now, since no cash...
