Trapped in a frozen hell, you must investigate the cold darkness of the human psyche.

The story, the atmosphere, the graphics, and the sound of the great adventure horror game Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason will chill you to the bone for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

The North Wind, a nuclear ice-breaker stuck in the ice somewhere near the Arctic Circle, is a frozen coffin. What happened to the ship and its crew is beyond normal human cognition. You’re not alone and the North Wind is now plagued by dead crewmen who have undergone a strange metamorphosis due to the effects of the very cold climate. Using your mysterious ‘Mental Echo’ ability, you must dig deep in the chilling story of the ship and relive the final moments of its crew. The horrors contained in the Arctic cold will not let you bring the ship back to life without a fight.

Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason plays from the first person perspective for moving, shooting, and exploring the world, but don't mistake this for an FPS; the horror adventure part of the game shows itself clearly when it comes to building tension, unraveling frosty cold secrets, and using time travel in innovative ways. When you find corpses of crew members, you may be transported back in time due to the 'Mental Echo' of the terrible events that led to their death and then not only change the course of history and save the poor soul's life, but also change the present as well. The graphics make use of the PhysX engine by Nvidia and are stunning: there’s frost on the walls, ice melts into water, shadows lurk, lights flicker, and the overall cold and dark art design makes the trip through North Wind an alienating and chilling experience.

This is not your usual horror game--if you appreciate slow-burning suspense and terrific storytelling, playing Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason is like reading a great Sci-Fi novel for only $9.99 on GOG.com.
Nice, I'd like to see more "not so old" DRM-free games on GOG.

Pheace: Lol, I think that one was 50 euro + on EA's sale recently, you won't be seeing that here any time soon I'd imagine unless they sell all parts separately.
I'm talking about this :

looks like my kind of game, wishlisted for now
Speaking of survival horror, wouldn't it be grand if somehow Capcom got on GoG, and we got a fixed-up version of the Resident Evil 2 PC port...

Yeah yeah, dreaming I know

Smannesman: Disappointing release because it's been available everywhere for around $1 for ages now.
But it's still a good game.
Steam seems to sell it currently for 9.99€, GamersGate for 9.95€, both more than GOG's $9.99... If you are referring to some special sales and promos, obviously the GOG version will be sold on promos later. I don't understand why people keep comparing other sites' special promo prices to GOG default prices.

Some people say it is DRM-free elsewhere too, are you people referring to copy-protected (DRM) retail versions, or what?

I'm not familiar with the game, but judging by what others are saying about the performance, maybe I'll pass it until I upgrade to a newer laptop (with GeForce GTX570M or something). Survival horror sounds good to me, as long as it doesn't have stupid control scheme like early Resident Evil's and such.
How have I not heard of this?!
The game is already sold DRM free elsewhere. The extras aren't really all that good to me. I like extras that are cluebooks and maps and such. Extras like wallpaper, avatars, and pictures you can find nearly anywhere or make your own. The manual is already included with the game, don't act like it's a bonus.

This is just a step in the direction of being the same as every other digital seller out there. I said months ago you'd just release games that were already DRM free, and not release new games that have DRM on them, or a newly released AAA game without DRM. And look what you do. This does nothing to change DRM in today's games.

I just want to see more older games, they are what I come here for. After you release 2 newer games a week for 2 years, you'll have the same new games as every other digital site, and I'll say congratulations on your journey.
Already played this on Steam, it's incredibly atmospheric. Great experience.
Wow, I'm surprised I've never heard of this, given how highly it's rated here. Not exactly an old game, but it certainly looks like a good one.
Looks nice - Shame about the idiots whining 'wah wah wah why isnt *insert game here* on gog instead'. Lighten up guys and enjoy the games XD

ne_zavarj: Where are the games from the backlog catalogue of Activision , EA , etc.. ? I'm still waiting for Pharaoh Gold , Zeus Gold , Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom , The Sims Complete Collection ,
try Ebay UK. all the Sierra city builders are still widely available as patched complete editions, new and sealed for less than 5 pounds. look for the Sold Out line of classic games.

don't hold your breath for these games to show up on GoG or you'll be waiting till you're blue in the face.

because people tend to pick up digital editions of games during promos instead of buying them at full price. Cryostasis is one of those games that are almost constantly on sale somewhere. GetGames have this game for $2 at least 200 days out of 365 in a year.

GamersGate, GetGames, Impulse. good enough for you? and copy protection (as in: disc check) isn't really DRM since there is no outside force interfering with your use of the game. but whatever.

A nice addition to the GOG catalog. I haven't played it, but I've heard great things about it.
Wishlisted until the wallet has more in it and the backlog has less in it.
Nice release. Too bad I own it already.
