Trapped in a frozen hell, you must investigate the cold darkness of the human psyche.

The story, the atmosphere, the graphics, and the sound of the great adventure horror game Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason will chill you to the bone for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

The North Wind, a nuclear ice-breaker stuck in the ice somewhere near the Arctic Circle, is a frozen coffin. What happened to the ship and its crew is beyond normal human cognition. You’re not alone and the North Wind is now plagued by dead crewmen who have undergone a strange metamorphosis due to the effects of the very cold climate. Using your mysterious ‘Mental Echo’ ability, you must dig deep in the chilling story of the ship and relive the final moments of its crew. The horrors contained in the Arctic cold will not let you bring the ship back to life without a fight.

Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason plays from the first person perspective for moving, shooting, and exploring the world, but don't mistake this for an FPS; the horror adventure part of the game shows itself clearly when it comes to building tension, unraveling frosty cold secrets, and using time travel in innovative ways. When you find corpses of crew members, you may be transported back in time due to the 'Mental Echo' of the terrible events that led to their death and then not only change the course of history and save the poor soul's life, but also change the present as well. The graphics make use of the PhysX engine by Nvidia and are stunning: there’s frost on the walls, ice melts into water, shadows lurk, lights flicker, and the overall cold and dark art design makes the trip through North Wind an alienating and chilling experience.

This is not your usual horror game--if you appreciate slow-burning suspense and terrific storytelling, playing Cryostasis: The Sleep of Reason is like reading a great Sci-Fi novel for only $9.99 on GOG.com.
this game is actually really godd, not old but really good.
Also I believe it's just 'Sleep of Reason', no 'The'.

svmariscal: You heard the guy, GOG. Take this game out or else...

serpantino: I don't want the game taken out. Though I do dislike the whole bundling new games and old games together, mish mash. I just want GOG to try listening to the user base again and actually releasing stuff people have been asking for, for ages instead of random stuff. They make a massive deal over getting new publishers then they release a tiny quantity of the publisher's massive back catalogue and then go back to releasing random & relatively unheard of games.
These lesser known games also need to be released at some point. They can't just keep pushing them back in favor of other games. We'd end up with a huge period where GOG are just releasing these game not at many people are interested in. You'd end up with the same frustration you are experiencing now, but for longer.
Didnt exspect this one although looks promising i think ill leave it.
I'll agree that it's a strange choice to put up here (not necessarily because of the age, but because of the punishing system requirements - as far as I know if you have an ATI card then it's almost unplayable), but I don't begrudge it appearing.
Disappointing release because it's been available everywhere for around $1 for ages now.
But it's still a good game.

True but most of the games released lately have been lesser known. They could at least organise it and release a bigger title on Thursdays and a lesser known on Tuesdays.
Still own my disc copy. No way I'm buying it again. But it's utterly worth buying, if only because it's so unique and weird. I can't remember a more atmospheric game in the last few years. Also, the story makes almost NO sense, but that's part of the awesome.
I am disappointed. Not because it is a bad game, but this isn't why I am here.

I would rather buy Theme Hospital for 10$ than a game I can literally get anywhere else.

This is a 2009 release of a game that is available free of DRM on several sites.

I'm not against such releases on princible, but we know you still have plenty of good, hard to get classics in the pipeline. Heck, even the release of 11th hour, a game I consider "bad", was more appealing to me.

And what makes you so sure GoG even has rights to release those well known game, and if yes, that they are in working condition?
Aw maaan... 2-3 weeks ago I bought it elsewhere : /

Yeah. I think it has been pretty much confirmed that GoG is going to release newer or even new games.
Ah yes, this is the game that had my 8800GT 512MB chugging on MEDIUM settings at 1080p.

mrtophat101: Would you recommend this to someone who loved Amnesia and Penumbra?
It looks interesting.
Easily, easily. I loved all these games, and Cryostasis has one heck of an atmosphere too. The story is awesome, and the European take on general style and conversation directing feels fresh, like in STALKERs.

Technically Cryostasis is quite clunky like others have said, but it didn't stop it from being a great game altogether.

Indeed.
Patience people, provided they already have a game they aren't just going to leave it sitting around for years and years. Well unless it gives them particular technical problems maybe.
