I just read on Kotaku that a new Web Series based on the Mortal Kombat universe is currently under production (with Warner Bros. blessing).

I decided to look the trailer up on Youtube... and this is what I found.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs3ROFNxa5M
(Warning... this trailer does contain blood & gore. Those with squeamish constitutions may want to skip this one)

Now tell me that wasn't fucking awesome.
It definitely is, but that trailer is not going to become a movie :(

I was so psyched for this first time I saw it, but after some research (sorry, don't care enough to dig up evidence and links again) I found this was the job of an amateur film maker of some sort, done without any permission from the IP holders or something.

Basically just a random person did this, not an official trailer of any kind.

Actually yes...yes it is. It is as I previously stated a trailer to a webseries created with Warner Bros.' blessing. Translated... Warner Bros. is more than likely paying the director & actors (Jax is a somewhat famous actor... he is the guy who played Spawn) as they are seeing how popular the series will be before giving a full green light to a TV series or movie.
nope its not a trailer for anything, and its not stuff an random amateur did (as if some random amateur would come up with such high quality footage and michael jai white acting in it)

it was a video pitched to the producers to get them interested into doing a new life action movie
I am so excited that they actually got Michael Jai White to do this webisode series.
"I threw that shit before I walked in the room!"
ok i have to correct myself somehow (i wasnt really wrong though, but here is why and what):

as i said that WAS a pitch to the studios to make a new mortal kombat movie, but the answer from the studio was basically "no dont make a movie, but make a webseries"

it works as a trailer now, and the good thing is michael jai white is still in it
Independent doesn't mean amateur!

Thanks for the link, was a fun watch whether it becomes something else or not.

BTW, here's the kotaku story to hopefully clear things up: http://kotaku.com/5734272/that-incredible-mortal-kombat-trailer-is-now-a-series

i think we all read it, but you didnt provide full information, and simly saying its a trailer for the webseries of course makes people that know it was a pitch for a movie think your post is wrong, include the information about that, and those people will get why its not just the pitch anymore but also kind of a trailer to the webseries :)
Hmm...Am I excited because it just looks awesome or should I be mad because Baraka looks fucked up, the mythos is wrong, and Scorpion has a face? I'll watch if it's released.

Copy & pasted from my youtube comment

"They killed Johnny Cage before the series even began? I don't know if that is a really good thing or a really bad thing, as it pretty much fucks up the canon before things even get started. I'm guessing that they were trying to just loosely follow the key events of the series instead of being super strict & telling us a story we already know.

All in all, if they don't kill all the cool characters like Liu-Kang & Sub-Zero, then this could be pretty awesome.

BTW... that is probably Cage's 2x"

I think you had similar worries to mine.... but in the greater scheme of things who really gives a fuck about the canon besides overzealous fanboys? As long as the series is entertaining I will watch it.... fucked up canon or not.

Looks like fun, something different and always good to see MJW get some limelight. He was pretty amazing in Blood and Bone and Undisputed 2, though Scott Adkins stood out too.

The actor playing Johnny Cage fought MJW at the end of Blood and Bone and Baraka was the capoeira fighter in Unidsputed 3 so good bunch of DTV western martial artists. MJW needs bigger roles though Black Dynamite was awesome.
