Here's what I need your input on: is The Last Of Us good enough to warrant getting a Playstation?

Is there anything as good on PC?

Thanks.
Dropping nearly 300 just for the Last Of Us is not something I'd recommend, even more so in the dead of summer, wait till the Xmas deals rock up.

As for things like it on PC,

There's A Plague Tale - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4FOb16Nenk

And STALKER...everyone should play STALKER...any reason to mention it even when no relevant

Is Stalker 3rd person perspective? I really like the look and feel of it in The Last Of Us.

Its primarily fps, though you can switch to 3rd person in many mods.
However, the shooting mechanics dont work so well in 3rd person.

Edit: console commands also allow 3rd person. the mods just add a keybinding.

It's a great game, but not great enough for buying a PS4, definitely not worthy for a PS3. I haven't seen anything similar on PC. I think that it's better to wait till PS5 come around, Sony loves to port their best selling games with enhancement visuals/textures.

But there is another great game called God of War (2018) this game worth every bit of powered PS4 Pro. It's a standalone sequel to the series of games, playing originals is not required.

Nah, first person. I just take any chance to preach the word of the zone i can ;)

The recent Resident Evil 2 remake could be something worth looking into to. Not strictly like The Last of Us, but a fair few similar beats. Plus it's just a great game.

Plague Tale looks *very* interesting. Do you have it, or know if it's got the kinks worked out?

I have to admit that I've fallen in love with Claire Redfield in white lingerie. lol

When does the PS5 drop?

No, but you could just subscribe to the PS Now streaming service in order to play it, which is what I did. There's a free trial, too, for one or two weeks, I think? If you have some time on your hands that should suffice and then you can unsubscribe again. It's possible that it will look a bit worse on your PC screen than on a TV with PS or that there's some slight input lag or so, but I didn't really have much problems in that regard. And free of charge beats whatever you'd have to pay for the console and the game. ;) Plus, they also have the DLC and some other older PS exclusives (Uncharted, God of War etc.). I'm not a fan of streaming games in general, but in this case, it's a good enough alternative for PC players who don't want to buy a console just to play some exclusive titles.

The Last of Us has nice atmosphere and somewhat interesting storytelling, but the gameplay is average. Not bad, just nothing special either.

Regarding the story-telling, The Walking Dead and Life is Strange are pretty similar. Regarding the gameplay, there are lots of PC games like that, just pick any halfway decent cover shooter.

The best gunfight mechanics for a third person game I've ever experienced.

I saw someone mention STALKER.

I've beaten the first and second one with no major game changing mods.

The first one has incredible atmosphere and overall mood I guess.
The second one has some more interesting additions like faction wars, but the pacing change during the later parts of the game was jarring, personally.

So far Shadow of Chernobyl > Clear Sky. I think you'll find people with similar opinions across the board.

It's also a love it or hate it game. If you want a super fast paced run and gun everything type of FPS, this is not it.

Amazing games IMO. I'm not really one for graphics, but there are definitely mods out there to pretty em up too.
Also the community patches or whatever are a must.

As for your actual question, I would never buy a console for just one game.

Guess what? STALKER is collecting dust in my library. ;p

Which one is the first entry?

That sounds like a better option than laying down for a console. I'll look into that!

I wouldn't recommend getting a console for just one game. Try Dead Space if you want a good 3rd person horror game. And i'll second the STALKER series if you enjoy FPP games.
By itself - no

However a PS4 IS worth picking up if you have the money and an interest in the system exclusives (as opposed to an XB1 where 85+% of the catalogue are available on other consoles and/or PC)

Things like Bloodborn / Until Dawn / Uncharted / God of War / Kingdom Hearts / Horizon Zero Dawn

https://www.playstation.com/en-au/explore/ps4-exclusives

Also the best back catalogue if you're into JRPGs... though going forward I'd recommend a PC or Switch over a Playstation

EDIT - the MOST comprehensive list of exclusives without the editorial fluff - ie do your own damn research! :P

Dunno, it didn't feel that special to me compared to other games I've played but then again this isn't really my main interest or area of expertise either. And of course, I played it six years after release, via streaming. In any case, I thought it all got a bit repetitive after a while. Later on some sections were more interesting again, but the game took its sweet time to get there.

Oh, IIRC, PS Now had one glaring issue, in that it didn't offer HD resolution when I tried it over here. Maybe by now or in the US it's different, but I remember now that I thought that a bit off-putting for a streaming service you're supposed to pay about $15 a month for in 2019. But like I said, there's a free trial period, so you don't have to pay anything if you don't want to.
