I started with no expectations of the game. Had a sour taste in my mouth from the beginning. After the first mission or two I started to really enjoy myself. The stealth is bad, so I played it more like Mass Effect. The conversation choices and options on approaching a mission (purchasing additional intel) is a nice element.

In the end, I had a great amount of fun from the game.

xa_chan: I hope to be able to play it soon, I found a brand new copy of the game in a bargain bin in a supermarket. 2€, even if it's an average game, it is a steal.

I "hope" to play, because the %$# protection system wants me to register online and doesn't seem to understand my internet connection is up and active... :(

OmegaX: The patch removes the DRM. I don't think the activation servers work anymore.
Ah. That would explain it, then. So, basically, I install the game, run the patch and voila?

EDIT> yes, it did the trick! Thank you !

Roberttitus: I have upgraded my pistol to its highest level for the point I'm at & it still sucks.Chain shot was the first ability I got... it is decent but not as good as some would try to make you think. That circle thing is what sucks.... you have guys firing on you like crazy with a machine gun with perfect accuracy but you have to sit there & charge your shot fo5 5-10 second to even stand a chance at hitting them. From my experience it is just best to melee the fuck out of everybody,
Chain shot 1 is useless. Actually, Chain Shot is useless until you get at least Master Chain Shot. From there, you will see the beauty of it. It is a godsend against very tough situations, and especially the bosses. I managed to take out some of the last few bosses thanks to Master Chain Shot.

You don't have to periodically your Pistol skill. What I did was to focus on maxing out Assault Rifles first, then towards the later half of the game when I accumulated more points that I didn't know where else to put, I just threw them into Pistol.

Roman5: It's an RPG with shooter elements, not the other way around

People try to play it like Gears or Cawwadooty and then wonder why their get their ass kicked in the game
My... aren't we a smartass. Being an RPG doesn't excuse broken mechanics... & if you had read my initial post you would realize that the combat is not the only thing that I was ragging on. Of course in a game that heavily relies on its combat & stealth system (which as previously stated... are broken) I think it is fair to expect those systems to be at least REMOTELY user friendly & fun to use.

P.S. I have never played a Gears of War game in my life & I'm hardly a fan of Call of Duty either... but unlike most hipster elitists who like to rag on it simply because of its popularity, I don't really see any thing wrong with it either. At the end of the day at least it knows what it is & tunes its mechanics properly unlike the game in question.
I quite like it so far - got through all the missions I've done so far stealthily and without killing anyone (using melee for the most part, and switching to tranquiliser ammo with the pistol for hard-to-reach enemies). Currently up to the final mission in Operation True Heirs.

Roberttitus: Well I don't know about the stealth kills, but in the 2 hours I have spent with it & the 15 or so guys I took out with stealth not a single guy was taken out lethally.
Melee attack key = KO.
Use/activate key = stabbed in neck.

2 hours in he was still in first level. no stabbing in the neck there.

Rebert Titus give the game more chance.
o_O
There's no way Graybox takes two hours, unless you have OCD and try to ace every single training course including the optional ones.

Actually smartass would be someone who complains of a game after 2 hours when it's widely known that the first part of the game is quite weak. I haven't seen a good review that didn't mention that until you pass Saudi Arabia the game is poor compared to Rome/Moscow/Taipei when it starts to shine.

A smartass would also be someone who complains that in a RPG their low level character is weak. No shit? I know the conversation wheel and the character screen make it seem like Mass Effect, but while both are considered the same genre, action RPG, they are actually quite different. One is actually heavy on the action and light on the RPG side, while the other is quite heavy on the RPG side. I'll let you figure it out which is which.

Oh, and a smartass would also be someone who comes to the Good Old Games forum, where people are know to have enjoyed their "real" RPGs back in the day and critique the new cinematic/action approach (for the most part), and bait them into an argument based on 2 hours of play.

Slight disclaimer: I actually liked ME 1 and 2 for the most part but I can differentiate between genres and generally know what to expect.

Aningan: Pathetic attempt at trolling
What part can you not read about "My first impressions of Alpha Protocol"? Y'know... like what is posted up in the title of this thread. As was ALSO previously stated (in the first sentence for that matter)... The reason for this thread was because a few people on here recommended it to me & I thought it would be cool to give them my impressions thus far.

That being said... If you have a problem with my opinion on the subject, how about you just go play your precious game instead of coming on here all butthurt because I don't love it so much that I want to make babies with the developers? The fact of the matter is that dude wants to come on here talking about the reason that the people who didn't enjoy (which is not limited to me... but I'll play into your little game) didn't is because we are "Sh00t3r N00bs" who only know how to play games like Call of Duty & Gears of War. THAT IS CALLED BEING A SMARTASS.

Ok, what was an interesting thread just became a trollfest... Grow up, guys, and stop comparing your e-peens! You're on GOG here, not on a videogames magazine's website!

Aningan: Saudi Arabia
Oh sh*t don't remind me. It's almost like Saudi Arabia was outsourced to an external developer...

Not saying I like the rest of the game in its entirety of course. For me, there were high points and low points, both about evenly balanced.

Hey man... I'm not trying to start shit. I'm just trying to get this back on topic & not have people come in here all butthurt because others don't like it. If you do like it, then that is perfectly fine with me... but when you come in here trolling others because they don't share the same opinion as you then something needs to be said.

Now can we please get this back on topic before WWIII breaks out.

Agreed. I think most people will be interested to hear if you stick with it and what your thoughts are after that rough start. Cheers!

That's precisely why i said "grow up". Come one! He/she is somebody on internet! somebody, like me, that you will certainly never meet in your entire life! If you consider his writings as "trolling", why do you feel the need to answer him/her? Never heard about "don't feel the troll" policy.

And that's precisely why I'm writing that to you: because I don't consider you're a troll. Otherwise I wouldn't give a damn about what you wrote.
