Hi all,

I noticed FSX is out for steam - but I have no interest in joining steam and would really like a quality flight sim.

Anyone know if there is a chance it could be coming out for GOG sometime in the future?

Yes, I voted on the requested games.

Thanks,
Rob

Microsoft hasn't signed a deal with GOG yet, so the answer is no for the time being. When they do succeed at doing so, though, I would definitely expect the game to land here.
Unfortunately, GOG still doesn't have a deal with Microsoft yet. So it's unlikely to show up on GOG anytime soon. It's a shame because there are a ton of Microsoft games I'd love to see on here, such as Age of Empires, , and [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/urban_assault]Urban Assault!

You might want to check out Prepar3d by Lockheed Martin. It's basically FSX. I think Microsoft sold it to them. It's still in development and being improved on with each release.

I don't think MS has the rights to it anymore. It's being published on Steam by Dovetail Games.

Edit: Probably best not to talk about the $520 of DLC that is being offered for it...

How come they don't have the rights to it if it's called Microsoft Flight Simulator? :P

Just because Dovetail is publishing it doesn't mean that Microsoft doesn't own it. Remember, when Night Dive wanted to rerelease No One Lives Forever, they were thinking of two options; 1) develop the rerelease and allow Warner Bros to publish it, or 2) both develop and publish the rerelease. If they had done the second, that wouldn't mean that No One Lives Forever wouldn't belong to Warner Bros. ;)

But does "belong" matter when it comes to distribution? If Dovetail or Night Dive or whoever has true distribution rights, then they would be the ones to decide what platforms a game comes to in most situations...

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. We don't know the fine details of this specific licensing deal. Hell, we don't even know if the crapton of DLCs was Microsoft's or Dovetail's idea (I wouldn't be surprised if it was Dovetail's idea, as they also offered a crapton of DLCs for their Trainz games). We also don't know if Dovetail has the full publishing rights for everything called Microsoft Flight Simulator X or just for this specific version.

Well, if you want to get down to the nitty gritty, we don't know much of anything about anything. We're all born speculators. I speculate that since Dovetail has distribution rights to MS FS X that they're probably the ones to talk to to get it here. I also speculate that they are the ones responsible for the crapton (great word) of DLC (because of their Trainz series, as you noted). And further speculation leads me to state that if a game with $520 of DLC came to GOG that there would be a complete riot by the user populace. :)

Very valid speculations. Especially the last one. :P
I also presume that they might not stop at "merely" $520 worth of DLCs.

An excellent speculation on your part as well. I think the only question is whether it is quicker to travel to $10,000 of DLC by train or by plane... ;)

The train has an advantage by years and experience, but the plane knows that the sky's the limit. ;)

Microsoft likes to retain final say in distribution rights. For a long time Shadowrun Returns didn't come to GoG because Microsoft said no.
