Most of GOG.com users already know that Planescape: Torment is one of the best games ever created. What's even cooler about it, fans of the game made it even better with lots of mods and enhancements, but it's pretty difficult to figure out what modifications and in which order they should be installed. Thanks to Johnny Walker aka ThunderPeel2001, who originally posted this article a detailed description of the fastest and easiest way to get the best of Planescape: Torment.

I had only one issue... I had to delete previous mod's setup.exe files in main PST directory, as the next mod reported that "he's older version" and tried to do silly things. Cmd window just blinked and debug file was created...
Removing setup.exe of already installed mods fix this.

drealmer7: will I be able to use previous save games with the #3 and #4 mods? the game looks fine (like it did when released) on my LCD tv/computer monitor) so I don't want to install #1 and #2 and lose my savegames. Also, if I can install the 3rd and 4th mods without losing saves, I'm curious...I'm mostly done with the Lower Ward, do those 2 mods add content prior to where I am in the game that I might want to go back to and play over, or am I good to pick it up from here?

my favorite game of all time, so I don't mind going back and replaying the beginning, but I'm anxious to continue onward after all these years. Silly me for not looking at this before playing a while (I like to stay true to what the publishers wanted in the game, so didn't even bother to look beyond the official patches...but in circumstances like this I think it makes sense to install the mods and get the content, like I did for arcanum.)

thanks in advance for responses!
When I installed the widescreen and UI mods, (#1 and #2) my saves were NOT invalidated. They worked perfectly fine at the different resolution. When I installed #3, my saves WERE invalidated. This is likely due to either the huge number of changes in the fixpack, or to the engine changes it makes. So if you want to play it unmodified but in a different resolution, just install the first two and you should be fine.

On a related note, I found that the game "looks" the best at 800x600, at least for me. If you make it any higher than that, everything starts to get too small, and you have to use the UI mod's text enlarger just to keep yourself from going blind.
thanks for the response!

has anyone else experienced losing saves with mod #3?

I don't really care about changing the resolution, so my main concern is with mods #3 and #4 and whether there is adequate (or any) added content to the point at where I am (partway done with the Lower Ward) that I should just start over, or will I get a substantial amount/not miss much from the added content from her eon out?

I've been playing other stuff in the meantime to deciding what I want to do, I think I may just start over because I've played it through twice before and this 3rd time may be my last for another 10 years, so I should check out ALL the extra content I haven't experienced yet.

thanks for feedback ppls~
thx man! its awesome!

That would probably bring rise to a whole load of legal problems.

Stick with it, take your time, most of them are well worth it :-).

Oh GOG, there's a slight issue in the guide, namely that a few of the mods reccomend unzipping into "program files" "or programex86", i found in windows 7 that doing this caused the files not to exact, instead i unzipped to my desktop, then moved the files to the relevant location.

Yeah, Windows 7 is kinda mean like that, with all of its stupid permissions.
When I use the widescreen mod at 1920x1080, I find the frame rate slows down quite a lot, or at least becomes slightly erratic. Is this normal? Stock resolutions fare a lot better. My GPU is a GTX275, but it seems like it might be a bottleneck at the CPU. Hints or comments?

Might be worth visiting the following link and trying one of the solutions suggested.

I had seriously bad slowdown issues on XP SP3 (but not W7 oddly), and the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit fix worked for me. I get the flickery mouse cursor on the title screen/char creation page but not in-game.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it certainly does. Thank you very much!
Does this game seriously not have a sprite for walking "northeast"?
It may be only me but for some reason everytime I try to walk/run in that direction, Nameless One faces north and proceeds northeast facing another direction...

Only northeast? Not all east-facing directions?

Now that you mentioned...you're right. It's all east-facing directions.
Sorry for not noticing it before. Never got to really play it because of the weird animation when walking to the east.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix for it?

Go to the options screen (diskette symbol), then video options, and enable (or disable if it's enabled) software mirroring.
