Most of GOG.com users already know that Planescape: Torment is one of the best games ever created. What's even cooler about it, fans of the game made it even better with lots of mods and enhancements, but it's pretty difficult to figure out what modifications and in which order they should be installed. Thanks to Johnny Walker aka ThunderPeel2001, who originally posted this article a detailed description of the fastest and easiest way to get the best of Planescape: Torment.

RafaelLopez: Two questions remain:

1. With Ultimate Fixpack, should we still look for official patches? (that is, assuming there's an official patch that's more advanced than the GOG version of the game)

2. Are the missions on Unfinished Business pack... well... finished? Or is it just a bunch of dead-ends? Isn't there good a reason why they weren't added to the game?

Bonus question: does this guide work on a physical CD version of the game (not the version from GOG) with or without the latest official patch?
1. I believe you should install the offical patches first, before installing any of these. The official patches don't make anything worse.

2. Yes, they're 'finished' in the sense that you can complete them. Most of them were omitted either because they weren't particularly super-exciting (like the Candlestick quest) or becuase they were missing a handful of things that prevented them from executing (and those things have been added back in now). Most are rebuilt from exisiting text/triggers etc found in-game, and made to work. The readme of the files gives you details. Personally, I'd recommend them all except the 'More Morte Mortuary Moments' or whatever it's called.

Bonus: The guide here on GOG was actually Copy/Pasted from elsewhere (at http://thunderpeel2001.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html) but omits a few things, since the GOG version already includes a few of the changes. If you're trying to install the patches on a CD version, you would do well to read the original guide at the URL I posted there.

Ghostdog's Incredible UI Mod is a 7zip file. To extract it you'll need a program like 7-Zip available at http://www.7-zip.org/
This guide makes me wonder, why noone has jet made all-in-one "exe" with those mods?
I guess that authors would have to agree on that, but I believe they wouldn’t have nothing against it if credit was given for their work.

I hope that with GOG now selling this, it starts a PS:T revival... we could really be doing with some more adventures for TNO and the gang.
Than you, that guide is awesome, and the many fix aswell!
Thank you so much for this, the game is sooo much better after applying the mods. Just another reason why GOG is the best :)

My monitors native res is 2560 x 1440, which made everything impossibly small (except for text, thanks to one of the mods). After fiddling around, I wouldn't recommend going over 1080p.

1. There won't be any new official patches. Interplay killed the Black Isle Studio about 7 years ago. But don't worry, I have the original 4 CD setup, and it works perfectly under Windows 7 64-bit with all the unofficial patches installed.

2. IIRC, unfinished business completes most (if not all) the quests. The reason why it wasn't included is most likely that the developers ran out of time. Rather than shipping buggy, untested code, they cut small side quests, and dialogs. Unfortunately, this means many of the voice overs and dialogs will be inaccessible.

Bonus question: see my reply #1.
Wow, thank you so much for compiling this guide, game looks so much better! I'm a PS:T newbie so I can't wait to experience this in the best possible way :D
I don't think i can thank you guys enough. Great classics, cheap prices, AND excellent service with how to play the games at their best ability. Keep on Rockin!
i got a very bad mouse trail when i installed the first two moods. The cursor blinks with high frequency and leave a blinking trail after it over the whole scrren, and the characters have ghost shadows almost like they have ghost twins, anyone have gotten this ? I can post a screenshot if that helps explains my problems, and i got a error message saying, when i exit the program, saying that the program stopped working

In the options menu, try changing the blitting options (software, mirror and the other one I can't remember). A combination of those might do the trick
Thanks for the guide and links. I can't seem to get any to work with the retail version, but they sound so promising that I will persist!

Edit: ah, sorted it out. All it took was a bit of fiddling to make it a full install, and a restart between a couple. :)

I've installed the recommended mods/tweaks/fixes over the GOG download version of PST and I get frequent crashes when entering new areas. It usually auto-saves and then crashes as it tries to load, though once it's crashed while saving and another time it crashed right after I saw my party in the new area for a split second. There's no error message other than the default "X program has encountered an error and needs to close" one. It's running on XP, ATI graphics card, Sempron processor.

I have a suspicion it's the widescreen and/or UI mod because it happens when loading a new area, rather than when loading anything else that any of the mods have altered. I would test it by doing a fresh install with all the mods apart from WS/UI and seeing if it crashes at all then, but the catch is that it didn't crash at all until I'd got out of the first area and several quests into the Hive areas.

It's particularly annoying because if I un-install the widescreen mod, I get even worse errors than before - some areas being 100% off limits now due to guaranteed crashing, and the error says how it can't find a certain file in a folder on the F:\ drive, even though Torment is installed on I:\, which is odd.
will I be able to use previous save games with the #3 and #4 mods? the game looks fine (like it did when released) on my LCD tv/computer monitor) so I don't want to install #1 and #2 and lose my savegames. Also, if I can install the 3rd and 4th mods without losing saves, I'm curious...I'm mostly done with the Lower Ward, do those 2 mods add content prior to where I am in the game that I might want to go back to and play over, or am I good to pick it up from here?

my favorite game of all time, so I don't mind going back and replaying the beginning, but I'm anxious to continue onward after all these years. Silly me for not looking at this before playing a while (I like to stay true to what the publishers wanted in the game, so didn't even bother to look beyond the official patches...but in circumstances like this I think it makes sense to install the mods and get the content, like I did for arcanum.)

thanks in advance for responses!
