New music video from Arjen Lucassen and Anneke van Giersbergen's symphonic folk metal project:

The Gentle Storm - Heart of Amsterdam
a bit besides the point of pure metal discussing, but I would like to ask you gentlemen the following, out of curiosity;

A good friend of mine loves death metal, but to me it sounds like a random cascade of noise with garbled screaming, now I offered him to listen to Jon leif's Hekla a while ago, and he said that it was random banging?

Of course, atonal music from the 60ies and death metal are different things entirely, but I did think at the time he'd quite like it (which he really didn't, he said it was too much "random noise")

What do you think of the piece? the real fun only starts at about 5:40 minutes into the piece, but the buildup is also great.

I find it to be quite a lovely piece at what it tries to depict (which it does really well, I can basicly hear Surtr roaring and yingling his chains by the end of the piece), and it doens't at all sound random to me (but I often listen to stuff like this too, so...).

so, what do you think of it?

I listen to almost kind of music and to be honest also not for being rude (since i don't quite familiar with his works) I can't enjoyed Jon leif's stuff that you posted. the think is less harmonic and yeah I've to agreed with your friend but least I'm quite enjoyed the beginning part of the song before 4.50 minutes.

don't know about you but for instrumental band i often listen to GYBE. the point is, we can't impose someone's fondness for something that we like. cheers! :)
This group have been mentioned a couple times before in this thread, but since I discovered them only a couple weeks ago, and recently received the album I ordered, I'm compelled to have Babymetal mentioned again.

They should have put some headbangers from Brutal Legend on that video!

Is that... Japanese metal crossed with J-pop? Hahaha, that's awesome.

Is it wrong that I just replayed that BABYMETAL song 4 times? o_O
Am I insane? Are these the side effects of insomnia? Or is it actually good? HELP!

Insanity is subjective; and yes, it's good. I did the same, so trust me, we're in good company.

Edit: Oh god, I can't stop... Please ignore what I previously said.

I too just received my Babymetal CD in the mail.

My kids love it. They call it "Minion music". My wife things it's the worst thing that ever existed.

Major score on both counts.

Perfect. Now you just have to make your kids life-long fans of "Minion music" and your wife will love you forever... or something. Sorry, the music and the booze; it's... it's hard to think straight. (What's the deal with that anyways? Why "Minion music"?)

I was about to list a bunch of information and history that would likely do little more than assign me the titles of Otaku and creepy weirdo, so please do, instead, head to the wikipedia article about the group if you're interested.
