Remember the old MMOs? They were Immersive, fun, difficult had a great sense of scale and they can run on a potato.
Really, who has played any of these?I played them all and I still play some like EQ,AC and M59 as well as WoW
I suppose some of you have great memories with these games and want to revisit them.Apart from DAoC and UO,they're all free and you can play them on a modern system.Anyone want to share some memories?
i played everquest 2 but that was 2 yars ago long after its heyday

i never cared much for mmo's they are games on borrowed time and when the plug is pulled they are gone just look at pirates online
Yep, never played MMO's, never saw the point in online or social play. I did however find the Ultima games exceptionally good and the online one looked simliar. As for the rest, nah. World of Wandering around killing everything, doing some pointless missions everyone else has also done just so I unlock the slayer of chickens achievement.

As much as I love EQ2,I prefer the original.Maybe it's because of nostalgia.
Played AC, initially on dial-up. Surprised an MMO could deal with that slower speed but it wasn't as bad as one might expect. I'm good friends with our monarch and I wasn't able to play as much as the early core group of players due to my heavy travel schedule at the time, so he tried to keep me as high within the rank structure as possible in order to get the trickle-up XP so I could stay competitive. He briefly got things organized to make the King rank (I think it was King - whatever was the top tier) using just a few dozen guild members more than the absolute minimum. AC2 came along and a lot of people migrated, so interest waned and that was that.

It was fun, a bit grind-y, with some crafting thrown in. Back then, I met more cool people in the game than jerks, so that was a bonus. Eventually the guild got too big and about as much time was spent arranging the rank structure as was spent actually playing, so that didn't help matters.
I'd be playing Everquest 1 if it had better controls and interface.

If you have a good PC,I recommend TERA.But hey,1999 game so expect clunky controls and atrocious tutorial level.
That fucking kobold mine!
I played UO for roughly seven years starting not long after its launch.
The game encouraged you to interact with other people, something that modern MMOs fail to do.
In the early years there was a real sense of achievement to hitting 100 in a trade skill (becoming a Grandmaster).
I was one of the first people to GM Blacksmithing on the Europa server, it took me roughly 5 months but people used to seek me out to have armour made with my name on it.
It was a great feeling.

The game died a little for me when they split the world into two. We wound up with PK Land and Care Bear Land.
In Care Bear Land there was no risk to travelling between towns anymore while PK Land was largely deserted.
They made the game a lot easier to progress in skill wise as well to try to appeal to the EQ crowd.

These days I am totally burnt out MMO wise. None of them appeal to me.
I miss classic UO.

Play TERA or Rift. Both are great alternatives to WoW.
But if you want to spend the cash, you can always play WoW.
There was an article about people still playing UO on RPS a few days back, I only skimmed it though...
