[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

Engerek01: I also believe that the best solution is to create a separate topic for the itch games and only post it here if there are very good.

I am sorry but most of the itch games posted here are total garbage to me. I stopped checking them a long time ago. If you separate the topics but only post good games here, if I see an itch game posted I'll think it might be actually worth a shot.

EDIT: I nominate drxenija to open that topic dedicated to itch giveaways. S/he does most of the work anyways. :)
This is actulay a good idea.

Let all the flowers bloom, as they say around where I live but compromise if need to.
I"m not interested in ichio freebies now, there a too much so i didn't check them anymore, but some people may be interested by those games and we are in the massive giveaway thread, so they have their place here like steam or epic games. If people don't want them, they can just scroll down it's not hard to do.

My 2 cents is that this should be the general thread for massive giveaways of computer games. So no assets or books or "physical games" or other such things, and imho also no mobile/console/whatever games, but if it's a PC game that is temporarily free (so don't list things that are permanently free either), it should be allowed here.
There is a whole lot of crap on itch though, so maybe the posters should take a glance at the probable quality first and, if posting quite clearly crappy games at all, maybe there should be a note next to them saying so (did that quite a few times when I was posting from there). And there were a few clearly good games from itch, so can't ban them outright because of that.
And yes, agree with the idea that the store the game's on should be clearly stated, at least if the link's not posted directly so it'll be immediately visible. Don't agree with the one of separate threads for each store though.

OK, so the poll is still going. Not many have voted, so I will let it run till Monday PDT time.

If you know anyone who wants to express their stand, point them to this post:

Let everyone's voice be heard!

drxenija:
Thnx for correcting links. Well because of my -10 rep i can't post links(at least i guess this is the reason)

drxenija: So someone contacted me and expressed their disapproval for sharing itch.io freebies...

Months ago, I had huge collaborative posts with 50, 60 itch.io giveaways.

Example: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/massive_giveaways_blog/post1428
It is much more neater this way.

The problem is games do not go on giveaway at the same time as they did during the beginning of the pandemic.
Now developers post freebies at random times, and some may only last 1 day or even a few hours.
This makes it impossible to post a huge list like I did in March.

But I respect everyone's opinion.

Here is a poll:

https://www.strawpoll.me/21003273

If majority chooses "No", we will ban itch.io freebies from being shared here.
And about itch i am all in. This thread named massive give away for some reason aka free games from every stores and itch games links are clearly distinguishable from other stores so any one who don't want them can just scroll past them.
voted for "Yes, all" or like that.
the subj doesn't clearly state that giveaways have to be games only. also, assets and tabletops are still games-related in my opinion.
while I mostly pass the itch's usual stuff, there ARE things interesting for me. bet, it's the same for the other goglodytes.
so why not?

Perhaps posts with itch.io content could have one line at the start saying ITCH.IO followed by a couple of blank lines so that itch content can easily be spotted and skipped by those who aren't interested?

Usually the link is a dead giveaway.

Pun not intended.

They are easy to identify, but still a bit spammy in my opinion, because there are so many of them.
Sadly the gog forum is so prehistoric that we have no other means of hiding them.

Cavalary:
Agreed, there should be one thread for giveaways of PC games. Although not everyone might be interested in giveaways from every shop it's easier to skip posts you are not interested in than having to check multiple threads. Clearly stating what shop the game is for also will help. Creating separate threads for shops is not a good idea. Perhaps it's also a good idea not to post about games which are obviously crap (or at least tagging them). But it might not be that easy as people often disagree about what's crap and what is not.

Maybe we somehow could even join the currently two threads about giveaways into one.
