I take it you haven't been on the Steam forums much, have you? That's not a conjecture, there are tons of threads of angry Steam fanboys throwing a tantrum about ME3 not being sold on Steam and justifying pirating the game as a form of revenge on EA.

AFnord: It is my belief that DRM is there to please the investors. When they ask "What do you do to combat piracy" you can say "We use this system developed by those guys, which makes it harder to copy the game". Everyone who knows a bit about games knows how easy it is to crack a game (and anyone who has had to deal with something like StarForce knows how the pirate groups have helped you play your legally owned games).
DRM is considered a success if it takes more than the week before release for the first crack to appear. If it works until after retail release it's considered to be knocking it out of the ball park good

Is there any penalities for doing this?

I like to invest with video game companies and curious to see how this will effect ea...
1.A LOT of people will download this.It's one of the most expected games ever,of course it will be downloaded by a lot of people.

2.Of course there are.It's illegal to download any games because of the copyrights and this rule apply's to all games(except for the free ones).

3.Well,EA is one of the most rich company,it will not affect it very much.They spends millions making "cinematic trailer" and throwing games to space,I don't think some download will affect them very much.

Having had a quick look, the point I see most people making is about companies not making a games available to competitors Which is an issue that concerns just about everybody, not just "fanboys"

Having had a quick look, the point I see most people making is about companies not making a games available to competitors Which is an issue that concerns just about everybody, not just "fanboys"
It's available on competitors just not steam who has added some rules banning in game stores etc

Which was highly hypocritical coming from Steam fanboys when Valve games could only be gotten from Steam or retail up until less than 2 months ago. Impulse is selling some Valve games now but that was done way after everybody began condemning EA because they couldn't pre-order ME3 from Steam. Every EA game can be bought from Origin, GG, D2D, Impulse, and retail, possibly from even more stores I don't know of.
Anyway, Blizzard games are not on Steam and I don't see anybody pirating them because of it.

This is new. So games that provide the functionality to buy DLC from within aren't allowed on Steam any more? Perhaps that's a bridge too far even for me.

From what people can guess it seems games that offer DLC must sell it on Steam too. EA wanted to sell DLC through Origin only so Valve retired Dragon Age 2 from the store. Nobody can know if this is exactly what happened because the involved parties are under NDA so they can't give specifics and Valve won't say a thing about it.

It's not that they don't allow in game stores. It's that they expect games that are sold on Steam to also have their DLC on sale on Steam.

This is probably added to protect themselves from publishers dumping games on Steam for little to nothing, letting Steam handle the digital downloads and then making money off the DLC through the ingame store. Look at EA and how they were throwing copies of ME2 and DA2 around like confetti, yet the DLC are on their ingame store, and that's where a lot of the money comes from.

As someone who buys their games on Steam I don't complain about the requirement either. When I buy a game on Steam, I don't want to have to go to another digital retailer just to get the rest of my game (DLC etc), and least of all share my payment info with yet another company to do it. I also don't feel like putting up with things like 'Bioware points' and the like. (preferably)

Hmm I see there are a number of recent EA titles missing from Steam. There is nothing worse for business than a shop that doesn't stock what the majority of CUSTOMERS want. They need to rethink this strategy rather quickly I think.

Seems like a reasonable expectation from a customers POV. Ultimately though I think they need to resolve these things behind the scenes in a manner that doesn't affect their customers.

There are thousands.

But you're right, those pirated stuff won't be on Steam as well. Maybe they'll just burn it on a DVD and throw it away, I don't know lol.

I refuse to use Origin (purely because of various questionable clauses in their TOS).
I just won't play ME3, not gonna pirate it.
