keeveek: Yeah, entirely different discussion I don't want to really start :P The choices weren't the real choices - exactly. That was the reaper plan modified. You are just a puppet and Catalyst is God here. I think that was amazing how they shown how small a single human is in this conflict. Even Shepard doesn't compare to the supreme AI, the highest intelligence ever existed. The lack of choice is just a way of showing this.
They didn't need to introduce that character even, if you think him as God manifestation. Everybody knows God, right?
But they should put some more dialogue lines there... To really feel how powerful that supreme AI is.
That video I linked to really does articulate my thoughts better than I can, it's worth watching if you haven't viewed it already.
Again like I said they railroaded you, the universe they created wasn't narratively consistent within itself. So much of the story was about personal choices. Ignoring that fact that US science fiction has a tendency to go 'whizz, bang, deus ex machina' and skip over so many things and shoehorn god into stuff (Battlestar Galactica) basically no longer making it science fiction. The inclusion of that child actually made earlier games in the series make no sense. Why did it need Sovereign if it was on the Citadel the whole time etc.
If they wanted to ignore the characters, all major points previously being covered in the main game then why not have Anderson and Shepard bleeding out on the Citadel then just play a modified version of the destruction ending. That would have been much better than what we had, which wasn't even the originally scripted endings.
Kirok: I didn't like how my choices in war assets were never indicated, so that it just became a generic number.
SimonG: This is the complaint I disagree with the most. I thought the war asset thing was a great idea. It was probably the only feasible to get the
thousands of different combination somehow into the game. It also made your choices visible while playing the game, and not just on one big ending slideshow.
And they made the big decisions into the game properly. If they would have given this treatment to former team members, than I would also complain. But they got their big goodbye ingame and the countless other, smaller characters and events, were also mentioned
and made a difference.
Admittedly this is a minor complaint, which wouldn't even be an issue if the ending was decent. it's not really worth discussing when so much else is wrong, just to say that it wouldn't be difficult for them to include a couple of extra cutscenes showing major decisions Quarians, Geth, Both. Solarians or Krogans etc.
