Wishbone: Given that technology has improved since ME1, I assume it takes no longer than it took for your gun to cool down in that.
Well now you are being very general there. Who is to say the guns in ME2 dont put out far more heat than the ones in ME1 do. Let's face it ME1 didn't have a Fat Man.
I doubt you'd be too concerned with picking up your overheated clip in a firefight though...

Fine, then let's be generous and say it may take three times as long for each clip to cool as it took your ME1 guns to do the same. We're talking two years here, so I wouldn't assume a massive technological leap. How many clips would you need? Surely no more than you can carry in ME2 anyway, except there you throw them away every time.

But once the firefight was over, I bet you'd be very concerned about stocking up on clips for the next one.

In two years the US went from Atomic Theory to the Atomic Bomb. Things are accelerated in war. Velcro, Ammunition clips, Radar and the Microwave are just some of the technologies born from our wars.
Wishbone is right, it was a contrived story footnote in order to shoehorn reloading into the game. I don't see how anyone can argue with that.

The argument should be over whether that is actually a bad thing or not.

The argument is not if it exists or not, it's if it's explained enough.

Uhhh... that's not how I read it. Wishbone thinks it was a lame nonsensical change and you don't. Am I reading something wrong?

I don't see how you can say it wasn't a silly change story-wise. If you think reloading was such a better mechanic that it justifies a silly plot point then okay, I get that.
I'm worried about the crappy cover system it uses mainly. Couldn't stand the first one because of it.
I've been thinking just this past week about how I'm ready for ME3. 2 was just, well, exactly what I wanted from a video game at the time that I played it. I really think it's a fantastic piece of work, and I think I might just play through it again over the holiday.
Looking forward to this.

I liked Mass Effect 2 better than the first one. Yeah, it may have looked weak when judged as an RPG, but I was judging it mainly without regard for genre. And, really, the series has always been a corridor shooter for the most part anyway.

I'm just hoping that Mass Effect 3 will have level design at least slightly more creative than conveniently placed crates for cover.

Delixe: It doesn't make much sense I agree but then nor do AT-AT's.
Who doesn't love AT-ATs?

Frankly, I think the Empire just can't afford to make things as robustly as the Republic could, due to how far they're spreading their resources. I mean, look at TIE Fighters - they're the staple of the Imperial Navy, and yet those pre-TIEs in the prequel saga were vastly superior.

Also, where would the fun be if TIEs didn't explode at the slightest touch and you couldn't giggle as you toppled an AT-AT?

I haven't gotten around to playing 2 yet, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who was bugged by this. At least GOW was semi creative with their cover stuff.
Still havent played Mass Effect 2 (PS3 owner) so cannot comment on anything to do with that one. Played and loved Mass Effect though.
Good lord, I am SO ready to play ME3!! I mean, after Lair of the Shadow Broker, which was certainly the best DLC for ME2 so far (and even maybe the best DLC Bioware has ever produced), I do want to keep on unfolding the story.

What I pray for, mainly, are :
- keep the greatness in story writing. ME 1 & 2 did a hell of a good job there, far better than DA:O for me.
- keep the greatness in epic-scale sceneries
- keep on writing apparently useless "wiki" entries in the in-game encyclopedia. That brings nothing to the gameplay, but that's an absolute delight to read when, like me, you like "hard-science" science-fiction

I must confess, I would howl in joy and literally drool on my keyboard if they ever announced a ME-universe MMO! ;)

I just hope that the upcoming PS3 version of ME2, which will have all the DLCs already released included, will give EA and Bioware an hint of what to do about ME2 on PC ;)

Resigned Disbelief: No, please god no. We don't need a ME MMO.
