Breja: Not to be an asshole but... you've been here since 2012. How do you not know GOG games are DRM free and require no internet connection to play? Have you not bought anything here in 4 years?

plegace: How can a stupid comment like that not portray you as anything but……
I had a network outage a few days ago and I couldn’t access the game, “The Witcher 3” I looked in the directory to see if I could find an anything.exe, (there was a “CrashReporter.exe”,” GalaxyClient Helper.exe”,” GalaxyClient.exe”,” GalaxyClientService.exe”, and “unins000.exe”). I thought maybe it might be in the “Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt” directory, but there wasn’t so I thought I might have installed it incorrectly and checked the download directory and guess what Genius, there wasn’t anything in there that remotely looked like all the other programs I have installed in the past. I even looking for a huge file that’s at least 60 gig and there was nothing.

So please forgive my naiveté as I didn’t find any way to either play or install it without network access. By the way this is the first time I have bought a game that I didn’t have actual disks in hand.
I appreciate all other replies that actually used their grey matter to help.
Just out of curiosity, your reply; Did it make you feel smarter, better, or just plain dumb, considering you didn’t have to work your grey matter to ridicule me?
I didn't call you stupid or anything- I just expressed my surprise at how you can not know the one basic thing about GOG's games after having been here for 4 years. And as it turns out from what you've said, I was right in my guess- you indeed have not bought here anything in those 4 years (at least that's how I understand your words about it being the first time you don't have a physical disk). Which is slightly unusual but there is nothing wrong with it.

I was just surprised- imagine sitting in a italian restaurant and seeing a guy who you know has been coming there for 4 years ask the waiter if, by chance, they have any pasta? You'd be surprised too.

I really didn't mean to insult you- I was just legitimately curious how you could think GOG's games are "always online" after having been here since long before Galaxy, Now I know, and that's perfectly fine, and I'm sorry you felt insulted by my post.

Just to clarify in case earlier replies didn't point it out:

There are two ways to install GOG games. Either you install them with the Galaxy client (which you have apparently already done), or alternative you download the offline installer files, and install the game with them (without a Galaxy client).

For instance, I have 1266 games on GOG, yet I am not even using the Galaxy client at all. I install my GOG games with the offline installer files without touching Galaxy at all, and it all works fine in a non-networked environment, as long as I have downloaded those installers beforehand (while I was still online). I keep all my GOG installers on an external USB hard drive.

Those offline installer files you can download in various of ways, e.g. with your web browser, or using the Galaxy client's backup option (NOT the install option!), or using a third-party tool like gogrepo.py or lgogdownloader, or the old GOG Downloader.

However, it seems that even if you have installed a game with the Galaxy client, you can still run the single-player part of it offline, at least by running the game exe directly (what Thiev mentioned).

Thiev: for reference, Witcher 3 can be launched directly from <game folder>\bin\x64\witcher3.exe
shortcut tales you to the galaxy client folder, which isn't a proper place to look for game files.
Very stupid question: Can't you launch The Witcher 3 (or any other game) from within Galaxy without being connected to the internet? Reading the OP, it sounds like you can't?! Searching for .exe files in sub folders (too many people don't know how to do that anymore) sounds an awful lot like "Steam isn't always DRM! Some games will work without the client when you move the game files out of the Steam folder" O.O

Maybe that's something that you should discuss with your Galaxy devs... People will hate your "mandatory piece of shit client that no one wants and that doesn't even work" when something's wrong with their or your connection. You know... Store clients aren't optional normally. And people don't read stuff anymore. I've seen lots of people not knowing that Galaxy is optional.

Just tried it with 2-3 games and you can do so.

I just physically disconnected my PC from the router and fired up Galaxy. It notified me that I wasn't connected at the moment but, as expected, after clicking "Play" The Witcher 3 still started without the slightest of problems.

Don't know what the OP did. I can't help but suspect that he didn't even try to start the game through Galaxy but simply assumed it wouldn't run anyway, and then couldn't find the witcher3.exe because he didn't use the search feature in Windows Explorer...

That's what I thought. But then, I don't get OP's "I had a network outage a few days ago and I couldn’t access the game, “The Witcher 3”" part :/

I'm too lazy to get under my desk to do this :P

Now that you say it, I vaguely remember a "Not connected" showing up instead of the store at some point in the past. And I remember that it didn't prevent me from playing my games.

This must be the case. And it tells a lot about what people expect from gaming clients O.O

I definitely read your post as snarky and sarcastic, fwiw. Next time start with "I'm legitimately confused' or something.

That's a really excellent way to convince people that you're totally not being a jerk. Or did you forget the /sarcasm tag?
