Any suggestions?
"sci-fi" and "RPG" aren't well-defined words so I'm not sure what you mean.
Do you want something like Deus Ex but that you haven't played or do you want something different, like Albion?
You mean like Fallout series?
Or Dawn of War 2: The action RPG? :D
Or alien shooter ... Err ... The action RPG?
Knights of the old republic?

All right, I'm basically srewed.

edit: Oh yeah, Albion! And the old doom-like FPS with amazing freedom of movement and dialogue and ... Oh, Strife!

edit edit: Dark Star one I suppose...

The classical : KOTOR. [I don't like it at all, though]

"Cyberpunk" : System Shock 1 & 2

"Post-apo" : Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Wastelands (ooold one)

"Welcome on this new planet. And stay on it" : Albion (VERY underrated - I like to call it Ultima VII, in space) and Robinson Requiem (one of the hardest games I ever played - and the other ones were niche games)

Why didn't I think of System Shock, seriously

Um, what? Sci-fi = science fiction, RPG = role playing game. Those seem pretty well defined words to me. I'm looking for suggestions for science fiction themed role playing games that don't suck. I only disqualified Mass Effect and Deus Ex because I've already played those. I've never heard of Albion, so that's a good start.

EDIT - Ah, I should have disqualified the KotOR games as well, I've played those more than any other game I own, which is saying a lot.

Anachronox?
Albion was a "Top Dog" and "Two thumbs up" at Home of the Underdogs, that's how I first pirat... picked it up. I did not regret it.

Albion is a severely underrated RPG from the makers of two Thalion hits Amberstar and Ambermoon, which became instant hits on the Amiga but unknown on the PC. The game shines with a richly detailed story, a huge and well-realized gameworld, a novel use of both 2D and 3D views, and some unique puzzles that are a far cry from the normal find-a-button-to-open-door puzzles found in most RPGs. As Tom Driscoll, a pilot who crash-landed on the exotic planet of Albion, you will make many friends and foes in your quest to find the mothership Toronto. The game is truly an epic adventure that spans vast areas and cities, all of which are teeming with colorful characters who always seem to have something to say. Puzzles are adventure-game style (i.e. use items from your inventory) mixed with standard find-secret-door-and-avoid-traps puzzles. None of them is dull, however, because each building and dungeon you enter is so well detailed and differentiated from each other, that exploration is never boring. With great graphics, fun 3D combat sequences, and a truly epic and captivating plot that could make a real novel, Albion is simply a must-have for all scifi & fantasy RPG fans. Highly recommended, especially to fans of Wizardry games.

E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy

I understand it's a love or hate kinda game, not much middle ground.

Just keep in mind Albion isn't "Lots of pew pews and hi-tech toys" kind of sci-fi, it's just set in the future,

I keep trying to win that one on steamgifts, not willing to risk actual money on it because of the really mixed response, but it does look interesting.

I tried to be polite. Perhaps I should have said misused words instead of poorly-defined. A shooter with character stats isn't really an RPG for instance. People often call anything that happens in space or after the date of writing science-fiction.
Lots of outstanding games could get called "sci-fi RPG" if any definition goes. The list would be too long. As you can see, anything goes: http://www.mobygames.com/browse/games/role-playing-rpg/sci-fi-futuristic/
And that's not close to exhaustive...

Just because MobyGames doesn't understand what "sci-fi" or "RPG" means, doesn't mean that people here don't. I trust most of the GOG members to know what they are talking about when it comes to this stuff without me needing to define precisely what those terms mean for them. That already seems to be the case here as several good suggestions have already shown up.
Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't understand what makes Deus Ex sci-fi or a RPG then.
Nevermind. Carry on...

Anywhoo...Albion and Kotor are the main two that come to mind for me. Technically Might & Magic IV features sci-fi elements in an rpg but obviously that more in a "twist" regard. Sadly from what I've played and excluding mass effect I'd say Albion and Kotor 1&2 are your best bet if for some reason you haven't already played them.
