Wait wait wait... ENSLAVED is DRM-free? Holy crap, I think I need to make a purchase.

Can anyone check to see if you can actually progress a bit through the game, save, and then load your game without Steam? I just found out yesterday that since Strike Suit Zero uses Steam's cloud saving, you can't load or save your game, even though the game itself is DRM-free. I'd like to know if Enslaved does this, too, or if it can actually be progressed through without Steam.

Probably a stupid question, but is it perhaps possible to turn off cloud functionality for the game (Strike Suit)?
Hmm the more I think about it the more I think it's a stupid question...

No, it's not a stupid question, as you CAN do that in some games. I can't find that option in Strike Suit Zero, though. It looks like Goat Simulator is the same way: DRM-free, but the game can't be saved.
Thanks to MysterD. for the fast answer. Please test it without Steamcloud and if the DLC is working.
Alien Breed and Ion Assault doesn´t work without the Steam-Client. And can anyone check if Toy Soldiers
(with Steamworks not GFWL) is running? Then I am happy and sorry about my bad english.

Enslaved PC - STEAM Version:
No clue about DLC working - since I don't even know what the DLC here is!

About Enslaved PC....
It was saving locally to my hard drive - b/c it kept checkpoints WHILE Steam was closed.

See this post about where saves go, whether locally to a PC or on Steam Cloud:

For me, saves locally were going there, while playing the game outside of Steam:

C:\Users\Username\Documents\my games\UnrealEngine3\MonkeyGame
TOY SOLDIERS - STEAM VERSION:
Game-folder has 2 EXE's.
Game. EXE -> Toy Soldiers w/ G4WL.
Game_SW.EXE -> Toy Soldiers w/ Steamworks.

Both EXE's do NOT work w/out Steam going - run w/ no Steam, you will get hung-up for what feels like forever w/ black screen; then freeze; then switch to another Window to find message saying either "Cannot Initialize Live" for Game.EXE or "Cannot Initialize Steam" for Game_SW.exe; then crash to desktop.

Oh my God, thank you SO MUCH for this confirmation. I've bought two DRM-free games through Steam in the past week, and neither one of them would save outside of Steam. This is fantastic news!

You're welcome.

I'm curious - what were the two games that you have Steam-versions of that weren't saving locally when running them outside of Steam?

Avadon The Black Fortress works on Linux, but it didn't work for me on Win 8. Anyone know why/try something else?

edit: @pedrovay: That sucks, but thanks for the info.

They were Strike Suit Zero and Goat Simulator. Both run perfectly outside of Steam, but neither one of them will save without being logged in; Strike Suit Zero even outright tells you when you start up that Steam isn't running, so the save file can't be loaded. I haven't tried the new Director's Cut, though.

Honestly, that's just how some games work. Anna is the same way: It requires the CD key and account login information in Windows, and absolutely nothing in Linux.

I have Strike Suit Zero on Steam. Ain't played it yet.
Does it work and save when running Steam-client program in offline mode?
