Primo_Victoria: That sounds very interesting, but I don't think I'll need it soon.
Well, even if you don't feel like shopping here right now (somewhat understandable), maybe put a pin in it. Stop back in a few months, or a year, and see if the site's improved. This is a transitional period for GOG; hopefully, they'll be able to dig themselves out from under the mountain of work they've made for themselves by changing so much about the site and the service in just the last year or so, and both will be the better for the changes. Hopefully. Because it's not as if we've been drowning in (attractive) alternatives to Steam.

With that clever name, there's no way I'll forget about it. ;p

dick1982: the search function works find for me. then again it's not like gog has a massive selection of games. all gog game pages can be googled up ,so with the right keywords , i could sort of filter the results i want. or i could try magog again...

HunchBluntley: Ah, but try using the forum search to find a few posts you remember reading from, say, last week. In my experience, unless you're searching for a thread by the topic title, it's highly unlikely you'll even have any remotely relevant posts come up on the first page of results. The recent migration of all threads in General that had lain dormant since the end of last year or longer will at least eliminate the possibility of the top results all being from 4 to 7 years ago, but that doesn't make the search any more accurate. And I have tried Google myself when I was stumped trying to find a particular post by a specific user, but even limiting it to this domain with "site:gog(dot)com" -- or the still-more-specific "site:gog(dot)com/forum/general" -- didn't return the relevant results.

I would agree the the store search is better than it was at the start of the year, but it still, in some cases, omits results which should be returned, or sorts things strangely (see my attachment for a sorting glitch I found last month).

EDIT for clarity.
ahahhahha. maybe it really is the best selling game?

i mean i personally never expected people to get addicted to "causal gaming" on their iphones. (i was a nokia-fellating finnaboo.)

or "freemium" NOT dying in a fire.

Nope. It's actually dead last among the Lucasfilm Star Wars titles, except for Rebel Assault I & II, which is still pretty new to the store. But if you simply search for "star wars"...suddenly it's #1.

I have no idea what that even means. (I mean the whole thing. I know what "fellating" means.... ;D )

MarkoH01: Absolutely true and I would not say that they are incompetent. They have some bad planning and especially bad prioritizing. When you introduce something new you should make sure that AT LEAST the things that were working before will still work. The NEW things are bonus the OLD things are things the customer was used to have so it would not be so bad if some of the new things don't work correct but some of the old things not working would be - especially if they are that essential like a sort order (which never worked but we had the manual option).

I know exactly what I demand here having programmed database programs about 4,5 yrs. myself so I know that it should not be THAT hard to implement an additional database field into the existing database and then in first instance simply copy the "title" data to the new "sort_title" data. After this process you would only need to change the "order by title" to "order by sort title" wherever it is applied. It's nothing big I am demanding here. I am sure that the things they already did (order history, friend list, changelogs) were harder too implement.

EBToriginal: I dunno having a low importance feature like a minor improvement to the sorting be on the back burner sounds like good prioritizing to me
I thought I had explained why I am the opinion that this is not the case but I'll try it again:
Given how many votes the "bring back manual sorting" option has (which is also a way to make your collection look good again) I would say that there are quite a few who would set the priorities of a functioning sort system for their collection as pretty important but that is a subjective thing and my reason for wishing higher priorities for this is another: If this would be a bonus feature I might agree with you because it would be an additional feature nice to have - even though it may be more important for me and a few than for others. But it is a feature which - thanks to manual sorting - always WAS there so it really feels like it is missing here for me. It's one thing to add something which does not really work at the beginning but another to remove something which always worked (or due to manual sorting had a good workaround).
On the other hand GOG has a small team and things like content updates, security, and negotiating more gsmes are all more important even if a bunch of people out of the know feel otherwise.

MarkoH01: ... -- COMING SOON: Improved searching. Soon, finding desired titles will be easier thanks to the search improvements that we'll be implementing on the new My Account. Also, as part of the solution, we will be changing the way that titles from a series are ordered (i.e. Broken Sword should always show up before Broken Sword 2). ...
Yeah, it's true they said it and it's actually not that difficult to do it (just add another hidden description field that defines the sort order and is filled with meaningful content) and they didn't do it so far. Also it has been now almost two weeks, so it could have been done already.

I guess they are either not very good at what they are doing or they have their priorities wrong or they have quite a different estimation of what "COMING SOON" means nowadays ;) or they are just a bunch of lazy guys or the guys writing the announcements are just much faster than the guys writing the code.

Some of these points it will be.

We cannot do much about it, but I guess GOG should make it a higher priority.

As it is they labor seemingly endlessly on some underlying detail without polishing the user experience. It might be they underestimate the importance of the user experience and the amount of bad will they are generating. The long delay until a broken feature is fixed is not a good sign.

Are they still ahead of the curve?

I know that feeling, I used to sort my games numerically by alphabetical franchise. It feels wrong that auto sorting puts Atlantis 1 at the end of the series, and that The Longest Journey and Dreamfall are on literally the opposite ends of my list now. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult, just really time consuming.

I agree totally that the things you mentioned are more important but imo friendlists, chat and all those other things they added new to the account system are not as important as a functioning sort system given that they broke it by removing manual sorting. That is all that I am saying and I am not "out of the know", I know that GOG is a small team but it's always important to keep as many things as possible working before introducing new stuff which is also broken. New users might think that everything on GOG is broken - which is not the case but it could be the first impression. And I say it again afair these are two SQL statements and a small change in the order by statement - shouldn't be a big problem for a professional.
