011284mm: Separate forums for;
GOG stuff (news, updates etc.)
Gaming GOG games
Gaming off-topic
Gaming on-topic
General off-topic
Giveaways
So that people can find the exact type of forum they are after without having to trudge through pages of things they do not want to see.

There should be a change to the rep system.
Up rep should be kept so people can show appreciation for things they like
Down rep should go as it is abused too much. Maybe a button to report unlikable content instead.
Would people object if there was a specific forum for indie bundles/steam related?. We seem to get a fair few threads created which relate to competitors or other stores etc...

ET3D: I like the forum like it's now. It may be easy to miss some posts, but I would rather have a tag system than partition the forum into sub-forums. Let posters mark posts as a gaming subject or giveaway, and let readers of the forum filter posts with certain tags. That can easily emulate sub-forums (for example show only gaming tag posts, in which case new posts while the filter is active could add that tag automatically), but could also allow filtering out giveaways, for example, as well as reading everything together like today.
Tagging is not a bad idea either. Did not think of that, but giving it some thought it also gets my vote
+1 and a smiley face for that :-)

JudasIscariot: Hi guys,

It has come to my attention that there are a few issues that may need to be looked at and ironed out with the forum. I am basing this statement on my experience from PMs from forum members concerned with their rep and your experiences that I read about here on the forum itself.

So let's talk:

What would you like to see in the GOG forum?

What would you change, what would you keep the same?

In short, feel free to express your opinion on your experience with the forum in general and what you think can be done to improve or enhance the experience :)
I personally would be fine if GOG scrapped this forum and wen't with a more popular forum software for this site or something. If were making improvements to this site forum however the main things would be....

-the ability to delete your own post/topics
-the ability to change your forum name without having to contact GOG support.
-better search feature
-split general discussion and create a section just for discussing GOG related things.
-the ability to bring up every post you have ever made on the forum (ie post history)

I'll be your friend.

A_Future_Pilot: In addition to many of the other things already said, I have three suggestions:

1. Add the ability to send PMs without finding the person's name in the forum.

2. Disable the 10-minute post-merge functionality (or at the least make it an option).

3. Allow editing of thread titles by users (with obviously the ability for mods to lock it if someone continues to add profanity or something to a title).

Reever: This, soooo much this! Who's idea was this anyway?!?
The 3rd suggestion is also very good!

But I don't know what to think of the 2nd suggestion...if you realy want to attract attention to your edit, USE BOLD or something :)
The second one is mostly for forum mafia games...it'd be VERY handy! lol

1. Make the list of favourite topics foldable. Have the one with the most recent additions on top and show only 10 of them, with the rest hidden by a show more-button. The way it is now, if you have subscribed to many topics, it takes a lot of scrolling each time you visit the forum to find the rest of the topics.

2. Increase the number of topics in the list of topics you participated in.

3. Add a preview function, so you can review your own post before actually posting it.

4. Disable auto-merging of your own posts. If I make a second reply right after the previous one, instead of editing the post, it is to reply to a completely different aspect discussed in the same topic, that I want to stand out on it's own.

Explanation: If a user ignores my post for the thing being discussed not relevant to him or her, his/her eyes should be drawn to the different post in which I discuss something else which may be relevant, not read the whole irrelevant post to find something relevant down in the post.

The merging function is especially grieving if you reply to a user that experienced something awful and want to comfort him and then adding a second post with a light-hearted joke on something completely different in the topic. The comforting words get merged with the irrelevant silliness. Happens to me too often in the bitch about life in general topic.

Some good ideas posted by others that I agree with:

4. Instead of a downrep-button, create a hide-button and a report-post button, with the report-button opening a field in which you have to explain why you report, which will be forwarded to the mods.

5. General discussion split in a small number of different subfora.

This is actually a great idea and needed feature. I'd most certainly welcome it.

Ditto. :)

It would also be great if it was possible to link directly to any given review of a GOG game.
I have been reading through the thread and I have to say you have come up with some interesting ideas :)

Give me a moment to respond as I am currently waiting on my opponent for the community Blood Bowl match :)

Oh! I forgot something!
The ability to quote from another thread- should be easy to implement and would be really, really useful. It's the difference from this:

Over in the The Word Association thread So and So said:
Blah blah blah
to this

Ah, yes please! I still remember the first time I tried to quote form another thread (yep, I was this naive and assumed that it was a given) - what a nightmare! The system just hang giving no explanation as to what was the reason, took me ages to figure out that quoting between threads was not possible and that this was what prevented my comment to get posted.

And now that I mentioned the system hanging issue, please-please, pretty please, when there's a syntax error or whatever in a post we're trying to make that prevents the system from going through with the posting, make the system at least hint us as to what the problem is - watching that swirling icon and scratching your head in wonder is getting pretty tiresome.
I recall that when you joined, you could select that your gender was a ninja, but I don't see that option anymore. It was nice.
