I've been hunting for this game for a long time it came out in 1992 for Dos designed by Julian Gollop was wondering if GOG would be able to get this game and make it so it would run in Win 7.

Gollop's studio, Mythos, went bankrupt, which is basically the worst possible thing with respect to tracking down the IP and getting rights for distribution. You might actually have better luck just getting in touch with Mr. Gollop himself.

For what it's worth, I've read that XCOM was originally meant to be Laser Squad 2, and it's a better game. You could always try to get your fix with some XCOM. That one is easy to come by.

But as for Laser Squad, I'd suggest you not get your hopes too high just yet. Gollop just had success with a reboot of his Chaos game, so just maybe he'll set to doing another Laser Squad - and then we can all ask him if he can package the original in with the sequel :)

EDIT: typos, of course.

La-la-laser Squad!

Great game. Also made for C64 and Amiga.

Here are the Amiga Version's intro and title songs as converted into mp3's if it makes you feel any better :)

edit: of course buying the official Amiga emulator (oh no here I go again) Amiga Forever allows you legal access to some of the old amiga games for free, like Laser Squad. And just in my opinion it has better sounds.

anyhow, long live dictatures! let's vote! -> http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/laser_squad

btw. I'm just trying the game now on amiga and it says Copyright Blade Software Limited 1989. Maybe contact them?

I originally thought that Space Crusade was actually Laser Squad 2, but that turned out not to be the case.

Wait, are you saying that Laser Squad is included in the current Amiga Forever?

No, it's not included as far as I know.
But they do offer links to download amiga games on their site.
Got a bit excited there for a moment thinking they had licensed Laser Squad, but then it passed.

While there are a bunch of Amiga games distributed with permission online, the selection is not exactly huge. Cloanto also hasn't updated their page for a while. Most of everything that is left is Amigaland, Ami Sector One and Amiga Future.

Back2roots is gone (which is a big loss), Borrowed Time is still "Coming soon", Cinemaware no longer have their old games up for free download (instead they sell a bundle on Steam and a couple here). The most interesting game on Factor 5 is Turrican, and you're only supposed to download it if you already have it.

It would be great to get Laser Squad.

It is a DOS game, so obviously it runs fine in DOSBox, regardless of the host OS (as long as DOSBox runs on that OS).

Here's the PC version intro with Roland MT-32/CM-32L music:

Apparently the PC version (1992) came out several years after the 8bit (1988) and Amiga (1989) versions. Not sure if there are some gameplay changes in the revised PC version, or is it just the intro and music that is so different.

It's on the abandonware website for download! I think it can run in DOSBox. Note: totally illegal.

I actually have the DOS version on a CD-ROM. That version was released in 1994 but I think it's exactly the same as the floppy disk version:

You could ask Julian Gollop. Maybe he knows where the rights lie now:

The PC version looks fancy, but my fond memories are of the Amiga version, so I'd still play that.
I remember playing it on a ZX Spectrum emulator, on my 386. And it was fun. :-)

Interesting, I wasn't aware of a CD version. At least on that video it seems to have Roland music, or is it coming from the CD (audio CD tracks)? 1994 is quite late for Roland MT-32 support in games, most seemed to switch to General MIDI around 1993 or so (just right about when Doom came out).

How much data is there on the CD? Just wondering if it has more than the floppy version. Kind of odd to release a CD version, if it has no extra data or even audio CD tracks over the floppy version.
Lemon Amiga site is what I use mostly to be honest.
They offer links to other sites where amiga games can be downloaded. To know if these links are legal is beyond me.
But the site has been around many years and is linking to the Cloanto's official site...
Amiga games that are offered seem to be an area that nobody seems to want to call illegal - at least those games that were made before late nineties and those that are not sold on other platforms currently.
But I really don't know so wouldn't be posting Laser Squad adf link here :)
