Rixasha: [snip]

Back2roots is gone (which is a big loss), Borrowed Time is still "Coming soon", Cinemaware no longer have their old games up for free download (instead they sell a bundle on Steam and a couple here). The most interesting game on Factor 5 is Turrican, and you're only supposed to download it if you already have it.

It would be great to get Laser Squad.
Back to the Roots is not gone. They just changed their address: http://back2roots.abime.net

I was not aware of this. Thank you for this great news, blakstar!

timppu: Interesting, I wasn't aware of a CD version. At least on that video it seems to have Roland music, or is it coming from the CD (audio CD tracks)? 1994 is quite late for Roland MT-32 support in games, most seemed to switch to General MIDI around 1993 or so (just right about when Doom came out).

How much data is there on the CD? Just wondering if it has more than the floppy version. Kind of odd to release a CD version, if it has no extra data or even audio CD tracks over the floppy version.
Yep, in the video I used Munt + DOSBox to emulate Roland. There's about 8 MB of data on the CD, no audio tracks.

(Laser Squad CD-version). Ok, then it is apparently identical to the floppy version, I think it was similar size installed.

By the way, what recording software did you use to record Munt music? I think DOSBox will not record it because DOSBox itself doesn't play the MIDI music (but just sends the MIDI messages to Windows). I earlier used CamStudio for that same purpose (to capture the video and Munt music), but when I later tried a newer version on a different PC, I couldn't get CamStudio to work properly anymore. No idea why, some driver conflict maybe.

jeralrik: I've been hunting for this game for a long time it came out in 1992 for Dos designed by Julian Gollop was wondering if GOG would be able to get this game and make it so it would run in Win 7.

OneFiercePuppy: Gollop's studio, Mythos, went bankrupt, which is basically the worst possible thing with respect to tracking down the IP and getting rights for distribution. You might actually have better luck just getting in touch with Mr. Gollop himself.

For what it's worth, I've read that XCOM was originally meant to be Laser Squad 2, and it's a better game. You could always try to get your fix with some XCOM. That one is easy to come by.
Hmm.. don't get me wrong, I DO love XCOM but I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that it directly obsoletes Laser Squad - there's defiantly something to be said for playing through a handful of human designed levels rather than grinding random genned ones for hours and hours

Incidentally Laser Squad: Nemesis looks to be a 'true' Laser Squad 2:

With Gollops actual input - no idea if its any good though!

And the Laser Squad series was, itself a 'spiritual successor' to the RebelStar games from the 8-bit Spectrum days!

I used either Fraps or Microsoft Expression Encoder Screen Capture.
