There is new kickstarter campaign, War for the Overworld by Subterranean Games.

This seems to have the potential to become a proper Dungeon Keeper II sequel, which is missing for way too long :)
Good properties:unity engine based so instantly cross-platform (PC, Mac, Linux), a editor for broad modding capability will be included and tech demo is already available (https://wftogame.com/demo), looks really DK-like.

But, at the moment it seems that Subterranean Games considered Steam as primary distribution channel (FAQ https://subterraneangames.com/threads/frequently-asked-questions.662/) and has also given no definitive word on a non-DRM version. So, everybody who pledges this campaign, please request a DRM free solution on their comment page, it will be noticed! ;)

Great! That reminds me I should try the first game and to reinstall the second now with the new GFX update. Evil Genius inspiration is awesome. I think I might pledge just for that.

So this is basically Dungeon Keeper 3, right?

The title makes it sound like it uses the plot from Dungeon Keeper 3 that was never made.
It's good to see the fans rise up and start to create the "sequels" they wished had already existed.

Hey folks, WFTO dev here.

We are definitely wanting to do a DRM-free version of the game, and would like to distribute it through GOG if possible (and until we know either way, we're holding off promising something). I sent the GOG staff an email a few days ago asking about it, will update you guys if something changes.

Also, happy to answer any questions you guys may have about the game, here or on our IRC.
My experience taught me that Dunger-Keeper-like-games and not like Dungeon Keeper at all. I hope that finally somebody will be able to break this trend and develop the game properly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Simburgur!

This project started as a group of fans wanting to make an unofficial DK3. That, for several reasons (take a guess! :p ), did not work out. We renamed and created our own IP, but the game stayed the same.

Those 'DK-like' games not really being that DK-like is part of the reason why we are doing this. Unlike them, we are refining and building on the DK formula instead of deviating from it.

Basically, we want what you want.

And that's why my hope was restored! I don't understand why it's so difficult to follow a simple rule: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". And so far all DK-like devs tried to do it and their product was... bah, we all know how it was ;) I really hope you guys will succeed!
Nice, Me wantz. This would be awesome if the game can find it's way here.
Sweet, I'd really given up on a true DK inspired game.

Looks very promising, best of luck.
Wow the tech demo is great, the game looks perfect. Has a distinct art style that fits with DK but is still unique.

This game has just hit the 50,000 (out of 150,000) mark, so it stands a good chance of making it in the long run!
