It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

darkangelz: I agree. I remember how many ppl had problems with NMS at launch, because the game required some set of instructions support older cpu's didnt had, wich later patches somewhat improved.
It would be so nice if they specified the features they need rather than some arbitrary model "or better".

CPUs haven't made any massive leaps in terms of IPC or clock speed in the past 7 years or so. There's been some change in ISA extensions but it's not as simple as "newer is better", or "more expensive is better."

A Pentium G4620 (~$100) is much beefier than a i7-5500U (RCP ~$400). The former is a "budget" desktop chip, while the latter is found in expensive ultrabooks & slim PCs of yesteryear. Still, the latter has some extensions the former does not have (e.g. AVX2). So which is better? The one with AVX2, obviously, if you need that extension. But the cheaper one is both newer and more performant (on common workloads anyway) so it's better in its working capacity if you don't need AVX2. It simply makes no sense to put things as "model X or better."

It gets only gets worse with GPUs. Games depend on features that are not inherently hardware features, but driver features. So some cards may get additional features after launch, or they may already have them on another OS. Or, indeed, you can have an older GPU that has more than enough power but certain GL extensions are not supported by the driver. Sometimes it's only because the vendor doesn't care enough to patch it in. In other cases, it's because the extension needs to be backed by something special in the hardware. Even then, it could usually be emulated. It's complicated.

What annoys me to no end is that Intel GPUs are practically never mentioned in system requirements, or if they're mentioned, they're mentioned as being not supported. Even if they work perfectly fine for the game.
It would be great if the game(s) actually output an error like "Your card doesn't seem to support OpenGL 4.1".

Yes. There is likely some indecipherable output in a log file that ways the same thing, but a simple pop up would have saved this poor chap a lot of frustration.
this would not have happened with steam of course ;)

Would be useful, but needs the developer to list up what functions they use.

Its only in the last 3 or so years that intel Graphics have been anywhere near usable for gaming.

Yep, it would be. Some actually do. Or they name the extension that is missing. Thing is, things don't always depend on some specific point version of the API, but some (former) extension that has been incorporated into the core specification in a later version. So a driver supporting an older version of the spec plus the relevant extension should work just fine. I think some applications also do the checking wrong, and in return some drivers (at least on Linux) allow you to make the system lie about what it supports, just to work around these broken applications. Sigh.

I had to get used to "AMD equivalent" or no mention of AMD for the CPU. xD

It should change with Ryzen.

Leroux: Frankly, I feel it's pretty hard these days for someone who's not tech-savvy to keep track of whether your GPU would meet the requirements or not.
Exactly, it's stupid really.

They need to stop just listing random ass video cards and CPUs for System Requirements. It's almost completely useless information for everyone. Give us the CPU extensions and Direct X / OpenGL feature levels required to run the game, for a savvy user that's exactly what we need to know, and for everyone else it's about the same as listing some random video card model and CPU they tested with.
A lot of times the GPU listed on the Mac specs is plenty of explanation, mostly because Macs tend to come with either only the Intel graphics or graphics card isn't swappable. So, it usually matches or it's easy to compare on the old spec sheets at Apple's website. Hahahaha to all you folks without Macs. Hahahaha....

ha.....

*sob* :-(

…I have one…*sob*… T_T
i think the OP is gone :P

He's a troll. Ignore him.

ckoz5.0:
If you would like us to help you pick a replacement card, just say so and tell your budget and monitor resolution (like 1920*1080) and if you are a fan of a certain brand (Asus, MSI, Zotac etc) or processor manufacturer (AMD/Nvidia). Oh, and which shop(s) you have access to besides the big online shops.

Unfortunately all online communities have their share of unpleasant people, personally I think GoG has a lower than average amount.

Anyway, hoping support can refund you, and as others said if your thinking of upgrading just post up.

You're welcome. I'm glad I was able to help.
