I really hate these kind of reviewers. 'specially the amateur ones.
So I was browsing Youtube and decided to visit LGR, he made some good videos back in the day before Kickstarter and Patreon existed and made everyone and their mother a whore.

Now all he ever do is promoting stuff. Last week I saw a video he made of a videogame where you could play as a cat.
Seemed innocent enough, until I realised it was his cat in the videogame and LGR said in the video how they had contacted him about it and he said yes. And today I saw video of his capture card. Also seemed rather innocent until he showed a sticker that came along the device. A sticker with his logo on along with the logo of Sims 4 because he's such a fanboy of those games. "What a nice gesture!" he said all surprised, like he didn't knew...

I hate when good people turn greedy and only do it for the money. LGR wasn't the first and won't be the last either.
At least he does videos for the money he do get, while others like Spoony Experiment does fucking nothing for months even though his fans pays him to do.

If it's the video from a couple of days ago, I do believe he isn't particularly complimentary about it.
Oh for god's sake, it wasn't that bad.
I think you're exaggerating the stuff about LGR pretty heavily. Almost all of his videos in the past few months were just the typical reviews of old games or old hardware and such; and I doubt he was payed for the AverMedia video, because he really didn't recommend it at all, on the grounds that the software is apparently complete shit. Even in the Catlateral Damage video he admitted within the first minute that the review is completely biased because a photo of his cat is in the game (and I'm not sure if he was paid for that video, either).

At least he still seems to be enthusiastic about his work and his regular videos are just as good as they always were. Spoony, on the other hand, seems to loathe making videos nowadays, although not as much as he loathes his audience.

So he gave his audience the information required to let them decide for themselves on how much stock to put in his opinion. Why is there such a strong implication throughout your post that you were tricked and came to a startling realization? You didn't. He told you. He outright told you.
Ever since I know LGR he does, from time to time, occasional reviews of stuff companies send him. He's always pretty honest about it when it happens and always gave honest reviews too. I've never seen he shy away from saying that something was awful if it really was and he was very specific about the reasons for thinking it was bad. It also doesn't even remotely come close to being the only type or even the majority of his most recent videos.

Another thing to consider is that at this point in his life he's hardly an amateur anymore, since his only job is produce stuff to his channel. He still is independent though.

I don't see a point in your hatred, but you do remind me of a cracked.com article that said that we really want our favorite bands to fail, because we want them to remain exclusive to us, like that very special thing that only we, in all our wisdom and knowledge, know about.

In other words, now that LGR is popular enough so that companies will risk a bad review and give him free stuff to review, and people will send him money and, sometimes, free stuff, you are upset because he isn't that special unknown person/artist that only you and a few other wise ones know about and appreciate; worse, he is making what you perceive as a lot of money for doing something that should be just a hobby.

I'll try to look for the article later and link it here, it should give you a better perspective on what I'm trying to tell you.

EDIT: I couldn't find the god forsaken article. :(

Actually, I can sort of relate to what you're saying...
Yes...? This is how people earn a living, I don't see the problem. You're still getting the review but with content that allows them to eat and continue living.

That's not my problem
If there is one thing positive about these reviews from LGR with these sent items, at least he is brutally honest in what he says. It is not a massive amount of shill when the capture device review pretty much had him openly criticizing the software for being incredibly unreliable for the price. A paid reviewer would not be brutally honest like that, if you want a shill, Angry Joe is the one to look to not LGR.

Don't get me started on Joe. He rants the first minute, then licks the developers' asses the next when he meets them at E3 or whatever. Plus that he defends Anita Sarkeesian.

Yeah... compared to him gotta admit, at least LGR is actually being honest with his paid reviews and NOT throwing hissy fits about Nintendo. :P

Joe hisses at anything that doesn't give him more money.
