What exactly is a 'meme'?
So what is it that makes these any different from what everyone has already known for centuries?
We had a Marcin meme contest last year, based upon a thread started by Vagabond.

Ah, I see.
I was just curious - over the past several years I've been hearing the term 'meme' a lot and I thought it was something new.
But I used to draw a lot and years ago I came to realize that my drawings, no matter how original I thought they were, were enhanced recalls of things that I previously saw by other artists and had forgotten that I saw and then tossed into my own salad mixture.
It's similar to the religious idea affect were religious ideas from the sixties, not commonly mentioned often or studied by very many people are referenced in song lyrics and movies. A person whom has never read up on the full religious idea can accidentally reconstruct it through piecing together all the references and then believing it their own original idea.
A long time ago I was going to start authoring novels because I thought that I had some original material only to find, after presenting my original ideas to others, that I was just putting together and recalling ideas that have been around for decades.
