The idea of a "friend"-based community is a somewhat new idea here, I'd say. In the past it was more of a "regulars" thing, the forum being like the bar from Cheers (sort of). I also think it'll take more time and more changes and improvements to the site to "sell" the idea of GOG friends in a way similar to Steam.

And people are wary of being taken advantage of by "friends", and others are crotchety and grumpy.
No one I know in real life plays games.
Who needs friends when you can get Followers in Oblivion?

true.

I think if they add player profiles, and a screenshot wall it will really help.............(yet keep it optional, some people don't use Galaxy)
Player profiles should not be client dependant on the first place.

Whatever you do, don't tell Phaolo the tales about the people in the sacks.

Microlight: Don't you have this problem? :)

MaximumBunny: If you read into some of the posts here you'll see part of the problem. GOG regulars think that you can only be friends with someone if there's some benefit/profit off of it. You have to be there to play games with them, or make jokes/entertain them, or provide some type of value to them on a regular basis. They expect "friendship" to be based on such contingencies.

For the rest of us there are no strings attached. Invite sent if you're interested. ;>
I think what you are saying I most GoGladytes are still using the pre-21st century definition of Friend, meaning someone you actually have some degree of affinity with, rather than the new 21st century definition of Friend which is "Some complete stranger that LoL'ed at a post I made 3 years ago and continuously posts pictures of cats on my facebook page"
Ohh tank you for all friend requests :) The biggest problem for me is, i like so much to check other profiles and compare them with mine. I mean, when you have someone in friends you can see how much time he spent in a game comparing to you. I'm a math mind. love numbers and this is big fetish for me :)

I love collecting achievements, love to see how my numbers are growing up, and with friends it's so much fun sometimes :)

I think, GOG Galaxy is still poor in this field and i hope it will change someday, cause i love this platform :)
If you have someone in friends here on gog, what does that exactly do? (I don't mean galaxy, just plain webpage)

Nothing. :P I don't have anyone friended but I have no one blocked and my lists are all open to everyone, so no difference.

If you're running Galaxy, you can see when your friends are starting / playing a game (which might inspire you to play the same thing, or chat to them about it?) and you can also see how long your friends have been playing on each game page under your own total time (so you might find out someone is a big fan of a game you like?)

edit: I didn't read your post properly so ignore what I just wrote about Galaxy lol

A lot of people I knew before used steam but a lot of the time making actual friends from the web never last long from what I experienced, only people I know in person. hope one day making some net friends won't have that bad experience :P
