I could be misremembering, but I recall reading somewhere on these fora that The Witcher (1) used to be a freebie on GoG at some point in the past. Is this true?

If so, do you think it has a chance of becoming a freebie again at some stage in the relatively near future? I am asking, because I would like to preorder/purchase the Witcher 3 (I don't have a computer that meets the minimum requirements, but I am used to running games below the minimum required specs, so that's fine by me), but would like to play the Witcher games in order and, of course, use the pre-order Witcher 3 discount for having the other Witcher games. :)

Yes, in the very near future. Check your PMs.
Both TW1 and TW2 were, at some point, offered for free. But not just by being registered on the site. Recently, TW2 could be had for free by collecting stamps ( ie visiting the site and clicking on a button) repeatedly during one of the sales. TW1 was offered as a bonus when making a purchase on GOG back in October 2013

Do you have The Witcher 2?
Yes, misteryo, I do have it. :)

I am amazed at the generosity in this community - I got the Witcher 1 after asking about former freebees and had I not had the Witcher 2 already, it seems like you were willing to give it to me. Wow, just wow.

Hah, looks like this has been solved already. Enjoy the Witcher games, and keep an eye on GOG.com, since they offer freebies fairly often.
I bought them both during last years Spring Promo, if I recall correctly.
If you'd really like to do it in order, you should read the books first. I don't all of them are available in English though...
