radical9: After the last disasters from EA and Bethesda and the "dont you have phone's!!!!!" from Acti/Bliz. Do you think something/anything is going to change after all this?

Screamshield: I personally never understood this term ''AAA''. For me it holds no real meaning. There are only two types of games from my viewpoint.
Type 1:Games that i want to play.
Type 2:Games that i don't want to play.
AAA is about the (relative) budget for making a game. So theoretically it makes sense that a great game can only improve from having had an AAA budget. In reality, sadly enough it's just not that simple.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: Nope, because most people will continue to buy their crap, no matter how bad it is. That's been the precedent that's been established for many years now. It's not going to change overnight just because a few people on the internet (rightly) criticize the badness of modern AAA games.
They'll make sure to forbid people like Soderlund from saying "Don't buy our game!" People actually listened to him, go figure.

If they're smart, they'll ease up on lootboxes because Uncle Sam is about to get involved - but they're probably not very smart :P

So ''AAA'' stands for expensive games? That is just silly. How can the cost of producing a game mean anything when nowadays we have games being developed in different countries(with different costs of labor), different funds management(mismanagement of funds can inflate the cost), different focus(expensive actors or cheaper, more marketing or less marketing etc.).

P.S. Who came up with this term ''AAA'' is the first place?

re2 in January. other than that there is nothing else. "AAA" gaming is all pretty much dead and that's a good thing, here's why.

The word "relative" in my post is the answer to all your questions. I don't see what's so silly about it - a game doesn't become less big budget because different contexts exist. Is an Assassin's Creed game from 10 years ago suddenly not AAA anymore because more expensive games were/are being made since then?
Yes and from the ashes will rise............ the AAAA (Anonymous Alcoholic Amphetamine Addict).

But a big budget means nothing, different companies spend their money differently so we end up with expensive games that look and play like cheap games. Why grade games according to their budget? That's just silly :D

Who says anything about grading? A relative big budget is what it is, with positive and/or negative implications.
Why would a "good game" not get better if it had a bigger budget, used wisely?
