Elmofongo: Let me explain:
No. Why should I let you do that? Huh? HUH?!
I would say that the Secret of Nimh would certainly qualify as a mature film. Ditto for the first Land Before Time - it is rare for us to see a child losing their parent on the screen and then overcoming the challenges that come of that.

In any case, I expect that once technology and techniques applying it have advanced further, animation for adults would become more common. After all, the Internet removes the barrier to distribution and finding an audience, so it would be a matter of being able to produce the material.

Elmofongo: Let me explain:

South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. are adult animated shows, but they only focus on Comady, I have yet to see one with say a more serious story and premise. Anime has that, but I rarely seen one from Western origins.

The exact kind of adult animated film with a serious story is this:

Sadly we rarely get movies or series because thanks to Disney, they left a legacy (or stigma) in the minds of people that animated films are only for children :(

Personally I wish for an 2D animated War Drama similar to Apocalypse Now, Band of Brothers, etc.

Do you guys agree there should be more animated films for adults?
For some reason, most people still have this "animated = children stuff" idea. I think it's a big issue in making serious animated movies because that means most of your target will not even bother trying and skip it making you lose a lot of money. Also, it costs quite a lot of money because of the time it takes to generate the images with a raytracing engine...
Also, people will tend to compare them to real life actors since the fact it's more serious probably means you can't go for a deformed or funky design for characters and such. At least until now, i think we lacked power to emulate live actors convincingly...nowadays however we could definitely handle it with current tech.
Some movies take risks like Immortal (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314063/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 ), Renaissance ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386741/ ) and everybody remembers the Final Fantasy movies (especially the 2001 one, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0173840/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 ). It would be even harder to make an adult audience come see a non 3D animated movie i think, even though japanese animes are pretty successful.

But yeah, i also wish they'd make more.

I as well, provided you weren't planning on having a cheerful day anyway.
I came here to suggest "Waltz with Bashir". Then I saw it was already mentioned. Now I have nothing to add.

Awesome flick though.

Appleseed ?
Appleseed Ex Machina ?
What does that have anything to do with this topic?

It's an animated journey into serious adult themes and controversies, and it doesn't try to hide or mask the human condition for the viewer's sake.

Yeah Ralph Bakshi's animation is ten times better than Disney before the Renissance.
Id love to see more animated films and TV shows for adults. And it would be nice if half of the animated films and TV shows are WW2 related because this is just too awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTcO835Ts4o.
Here is some of the stuff I consider mostly adult themes (some of which has been mentioned):

Heavy Metal
Heavy Metal 2000
Fire and Ice
Wizards
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell 2
Black Lagoon
Spawn
Welcome to NHK
Serial Experiments Lain (though I am not particularly fond of this one)
Red vs Blue (particularly season's 6-10)
The Maxx
Hellsing Ultimate
Code Monkeys
Berserk
Amon Saga

And, tonnes more I am not thinking of.
