rtcvb32: I believe for cats and dogs, immediately following birthing males can mate/breed them again... So it's not good to leave them unattended...
Same for humans, things is.............would it be allowed? :P

Badseeder: Just so someone actually answers your question: yes, cats can go into heat while pregnant, though this is not very common, and can even carry two litters at the same time (the second would be born while the first one was still being fed by the mother). I don't know if that's the case here, though.
More to this.

It's more common early on in the pregnancy, and often can result in the 2 litters being born at the same time and you not even knowing that the cat got pregnant twice. After 2 months it is less likely but can still happen and I wouldn't be surprised or alarmed, but I wouldn't let the cat get got again because, as said, they can get pregnant again while pregnant and give you that many more kittens a couple months after the 1st birth.

So, do pregnant cats get in heat or something? As far as i saw, with whatever little readings and experience i had on the field, i read those signs as heat. But she is pregnant! Cat owners?
Can they get in heat, yes, in several ways:

a) still in heat (which is why they can have kittens from multiple fathers in a litter;
b) walking from an air-conditioned house outside in a tropical setting during the warmer months;
c) walking on the edge of a volcano about to erupt;
d) falling from a space capsule and entering earths atmosphere....

Actually, the list goes on. There are too many ways a pregnant cat can enter heat.
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, vet wanted to examine the cat in person (wouldn't spare free advice either) but i couldn't do that for two reasons; he required 50 euros for the visit and cat is stray (wouldn't like risking putting it into a cat-carrier, she would be scared to death probably and scratch me to death even more probably).

I didn't know swollen belly could mean something else, other than pregnancy or more food than normally allowed. Worms/tumor chance got me really worried... But her skin, eyes and overall health indicates GREAT status, she has no spoils, no bad smell, no visible parasites even, eyes are healthy colored, etc.

And no, i am not a furry. I like cat-human changelings, but that is only for manga stuff strictly.

Will wait and see what happens. If she gives birth, i am going to raise those kittens in my yard.

By the way, if cats are pregnant, are they as agile as they were before pregnancy? Leaping high, doing acrobatics, etc? She sure is VERY agile, like, well, like a cat. (false pregnancy sounded possible to me, too)

Wow, some of you people are really knowledgeable! I am glad to ask questions, even with some trolling/humor in the picture, for openers! Always a pleasure to learn something new! My thanks also to: Exoanthrope, Badseeder, rtcvb32, Jalixx3, Gnostic, drealmer7 and JDelekto. +1 and thanks again!

ShadowWulfe: I think the real question you should be asking yourself is: who's the father?
avatar
KiNgBrAdLeY7: Wrong. I NEVER ask this question. And i never ask who is the husband of a lady. Especially the latter.
If you're boning someone else's wife, then she isn't a "lady".

Like some of those "ladies", maybe the cat is just REALLY friendly.

Yes on the agile part. Kancer Kitty, as sick as he is, still likes to attack the Shower Curtain Monster, still likes to jump up on the bed. Gotta figure, a pregnant cat still needs to be able to catch a meal.
i'd guess the cats will get fine if you stop playing postal 2 :)

Well, keep us posted when it happens. ;)

Mhm, false pregnancies in cats aren't all that common among cats (do happen, though).
A swollen belly however could mean all sorts of things (including some rather unpleasant diseases, or just being overweight, so your vet is quite right in not offering an on-the-phone-diagnosis).
Rather than size of the belly, enlargement of the mammary glands can be indicative of pregnancy (again, could happen for other reasons as well), so you could check that now and again. If it's a real stray, though, the chance of her having done the nasty at some point or other are approaching 100% ;)
I still cannot make certain if pregnancy is true (tummy still swollen), but heat is out, thankfully, at least... No more screaming, trying to hump objects or my arm, etc. She is back to being a good girl! Now she is nice and docile, again!

- Well yes, to a certain degree.

When our cat Belixa goes into heat it is quite tedious, the thing I find to work more than anything is playing with her with a pea-cock feather and wearing her out and feeding her extra+special food (we give extra wet food, raw eggs or egg yolks from hard-boiled eggs, chicken bits, fresh grass, and she also likes edamame.) She also likes a heating pad under a sweater in a nice spot. These things may help.
