HijacK: I was happy to discover GOG brought Star Wars Battlefront II to its digital store shelves today. And in spite of my question today, I still am happy that GOG is expanding its Star Wars collection. However, I was struck a bit with intrigue as to why the original Star Wars Battlefront was not added. Just like Freedom Force and System Shock, only the sequel was added. I went ahead and checked to see if the original available on Steam. To my astonishment, I discovered it is not available there either. I then checked Origin, but they don't have any Star Wars games besides the Old Republic.
My question is why is the original Star Wars Battlefront not available anywhere I've searched? And will it ever be made available for purchase? What about the original System Shock and Freedom Force?

Fever_Discordia: The original Settlers too, don't forget that one! I guess Ceasar 1 and 2 too, even though the first one is freeware Oh and Driver 1, the original SimCity (even though, again, there's a freeware version) - the list goes on!
"Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain" would also be really nice.

jindofox: Perhaps it's simply a case of the sequel having everything the original had, and then some. Do you really think we're missing out by not having the original?

(System Shock 1 is something special, I agree, but it's also buggy and butt-ugly)
(In MY opinion) the second had more content but had worse animations, lighting and graphics.

isnt battlefront one of the rare games where the sequel is the same game with extra content and/or enhancements, so you just need battlefront 2?

like counterstrike and cs source?

CS source is basically remake of CS, same like every new CS game.

As for Battlefront, no. I remember there being differences between them, and these weren't just balancing. I could be wrong, or I could just have a keen eye for details. I'll have to check.
Im still hoping that they bring the first Battlefront to GOG in the next batch. There were some differences albeit not many, you could play with up to 64 people in multiplayer vs 32 in the sequel, ships could fly around in ground battles, and I feel that the overall design of the maps in the first game were better, that may just be me tho.

For the record, there is a mod for BF2 that includes all the maps from BF 1.
