IMPORTANT: Please read before posting This topic has been provided to discuss the latest releases of our Downloader (for both Mac and Windows systems) and to submit bug reports. The stable releases (recommended for most users) can be found at this address:http://www.gog.com/downloader.

Latest version:

Mac OS X - 1.2 (build 512)
Windows - 3.6.0

Both Downloaders now have the option of sending Error Reports directly to us (this can be found in app under Settings).

MSE shouldn't have any problems with the downloader, so I guess the log is the only thing that "may" give more info. I hope Zen doesn't mind the extra log :/

PCGameGuy: Well, I've been downloading Riddick since it went on sale and it keeps plugging along after each restart. I will start the download, it runs for anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes or so, then the KB/s drops or it pauses and the downloader locks up. I close it, restart it and it goes again for awhile.

I did grab the newer version since it seemed important ('b') but it still keeps pausing out. Smaller files go fine, perhaps since they go under 15 minutes most of the time.

Since I am at 5.78GB so far I am thinking to continue rather than delete and restart, mostly since I am stubborn and have the free time. :)

UPDATE: Download finished and files were merged successfully. It still makes me leery about getting any of the larger, newer files though, since it took quite a few restarts to get this one done.
Contact me via PM (provide me your e-mail address) regarding a test build which resolves the stopping problem.

Fallen_Zen: Sorry for the delayed response, it seems your requests to our API are timing out. Can you confirm that no other software is blocking http://api.gog.com or the Downloader itself?
Is there a PeerBlock list for that (I don't think it matters, since the same errors occur with PeerBlock disabled)? I clicked on the link, and all I got was a blank page. It didn't say 'connection error' or anything on it, so I don't know if that's what I'm supposed to see. The Windows Firewall prompt never asked me if I wanted to Allow or Block the Downloader, so I guess it's not something that the Firewall is concerned about.

The downloader is giving me hell. I'm trying to download The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and I get a connection error or the program simply crashes.
I'm using version 3.1.2, but this happens with the stable version too. My OS is windows 7 64bit ultimate (english installation, italian locale).

I've had similar problems and solved it - the crashing part, at least - by going to the folder where the downloader stores the info for each item you're downloading. On my system (Vista 64) it's c:\user\<my username>\AppData\Local\GOG.com (another folder with another structure was used earlier so you may need to use the newest version for this to make sense).

In this folder, just delete all the *.bin files (or just the ones that had problems getting info - it's only shown when you first try to add them - after that they're either gone or causes the program to crash on startup - unless I'm mistaking) and start the downloader anew. Repeat the process of adding games/extras to download - whatever you've already downloaded won't be downloaded again (assuming the checksums are correct).

I haven't had the chance to really test this so YMMV.

From the looks of it, the *.bin files are serialized .net data, and the program isn't handling malformed, corrupted and/or empty files (caused by timed out http requests for the info?).

I already tried clearing the downloader's temporary folders, but didn't help. The program doesn't crash on startup, but when fetching the download info (checksums, file names, etc.).
The devs quickly provided me with an experimental build that seems to fix the problem. From the logs I can guess the crash is caused by a bug in the timeout exception handler, which causes a null reference error. A very short timeout interval, the lack of an automatic retry mechanism and my crappy connection didn't help either.

I can't seem to add any game to the downloader queue. For example, I open the downloader, queue is empty, I'm trying to add To the Moon from my account... and nothing happens. I've tried this with several other games, tried reinstalling the downloader, to no effect.

I'm using version 3.0.51.0 of the downloader, win 7 64 in french, my browser is Opera 12.0 (though I tried under Internet Explorer 8 and it was the same). There's a logger.log file which I can PM you if needed.

Thank you. With the latest beta things work fine but I followed your suggestion anyway, just to be safe.

Beta build doesn't use links as a primary way to initiate a download (it uses push technology, we're testing it, that's why it's a beta). That's why it works without any changes.

We've pushed a small update to the Downloader (stable - 3.0.52 and beta - 3.1.3) with only bug fixes.
If you encounter any problems with the update process (this is for those for didn't manually updated to 3.0.51b), please download the installer directly at: https://secure.gog.com/en/downloader/.

Bug fixes:
- Initiating downloads on Opera 12 should work correctly
- Fixed a bug which caused downloads to stop on rare occasions
- minor bugs

Improvements:
- Initiating a download should be smooter (less connection error messages)

I installed the new version and still the same problem with the downloader crashing whenever I wanna type into the password field.

Have you received the log file I sent? Any idea what the problem could be?

The 3.0.52 update (both updating from inside the program and re-downloading it) refuses to download anything for the items I already had downloading. It just does a constant flip-flop between resuming and pausing.

I switched to the beta and I'm able to download, though it caused me to lose the downloads I had going for bonus content.
