I just got the downloader yesterday and started getting Witcher 2 EE. I stopped it and resumed it successfully when a thunderstorm went by and I tried to save my electric darling from lightning.

This morning I tried to start it again. It downloaded the new patch to 3.0.40.0 (stable). Then nothing. It shows no downloads in my download list, making me think I lost all my progress. :(

I can tell it to download something new okay, quickly downloading Starflight 1&2 as a test. It looks like all my Witcher 2 progress was lost and can't restart. When I tell it to download that again it hangs with the status "Preparing...". Maybe it's looking in the destination folder and trying to figure out what it already has and lost track of? I don't know, but it's been ~10 minutes with no signs of activity.

If the disk is being used, please wait. The downloader verifies the downloaded chunks, this may take a while. We'll make this step a lot faster in the near future.

Or a faster approach, close the Downloader, copy the "the_witcher_2.bin" from C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\GOG.com (after that remove the folder) to C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\GOG.com. Start Downloader again, should continue a lot faster.

I only had the same problem as hort_wort. But you said that this "preparing" can take a while.

I have the TW2EE almost completly on my disk but deleted a file that was markes as corrupt by the installer, to force the downloader fetching it again. So it could take a while until this finishes?

edit: What takes me wonders is, that my firewall isn't showing any activities after the first minute the downloader shows "preparing" what fits to the logging entries where it fetches the first few crc infos. Does it really take that long to calculate a crc of a file?

Whew, okay, thanks for telling me to wait. It just started downloading again right where it left off. Took about 20 minutes to verify the 9 gb I already had. :)

Yes, if you still have the chunk files on the disk, it will be fine. Downloader verifies the checksums on all files. Unfortunately the download size is almost 15GB so this could take a while depending on the disk speed. We'll change that on next update.

May I suggest (again) that when it's checking integrity, to change the text from "Preparing" to "Checking", "Verifying existing chunks" or anything else that will give an indication of what is currently going on? I think it would help a bit, and I hope it's not that hard to do.

Normally when restarting the Downloader with a "the_witcher_2.bin" file present in AppData, the app only checks for correct chunk sizes (and this is fast). With a "new" download, the app verifies checksums also, if chunks are present. That's why it is taking so long. We'll change that.

Also your current downloads won't disappear from the list when updating to a future version. 3.0.40 has that fixed.

Sure, we'll even add some progress visualization. To avoid such confusion.

I'm having a very infuriating issue with the GOG downloader;

I like having the GOG.com Downloader at hand, but I don't want it to be intrusive; When I hide it to the notifications area of the task bar, the program still comes up whenever I alt+tab. Normally when you minimize a program to the tray, it stays there, the GOG.com Downloader seems to be the only exception and I find it very intrusive. We need an option to hide it properly.

Ok, thanks for a suggestion :)

irondog: I've gotten that error message, too, only in English and it has something to do with the .Net framework GOG must have used to write their program. I'd see the popup randomly at times when I wasn't even using the downloader.

I think (no tech here) if you just click on Continue you shouldn't have a problem. Evidently, that just does manually what the program should do automatically,

Rather than mess around with it, I uninstalled the downloader and installed the beta version. So far, I haven't seen that error message again and the beta is working fine.

Fallen_Zen: This error will be fixed in an upcoming update.
good to hear , but will it have any impact on the downloaded data ?

No :)

Thanks.

I'd love to have it around for forum posts and such things but I can't really work on my computer since the downloader wants to pop up all the time.
Do i have to keep the chunks to use the Downloader as a patcher for the newest installers or are the big 2GB Files are CRC'd against that on the server? I'm asking because my Witcher 2 EE Download is about 30 GB because i have the merges files AND the chunk of the merged files.

There's no need to keep the chunk files.
The update killed my Witcher 2 dl, it was at 9 gigs :(
