IMPORTANT: Please read before posting This topic has been provided to discuss the latest releases of our Downloader (for both Mac and Windows systems) and to submit bug reports. The stable releases (recommended for most users) can be found at this address:http://www.gog.com/downloader.

Latest version:

Mac OS X - 1.2 (build 512)
Windows - 3.6.0

Both Downloaders now have the option of sending Error Reports directly to us (this can be found in app under Settings).

I have the same problem as Congrolios. Havent used it for awhile, and consistently get a .net error with the downloader everytime it tries to start .

So I uninstalled the one i had, and deleted the files remaining in the App Data folder and the install folder and got Downloader 3.5.2 Stable. Using it on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. Reinstalled, to my E:\Games so it has full permission

And still crashes right after starting it. Here is the log from the .net error

I am using version 3.5.2.0. I always back up my games on my NAS since I don't want the games filling up my HD. So I usually add a couple of games for download, and then clear the already downloaded files from the Downloader, after having transferred them to the NAS.

The strange thing is, that if I for example manually clear the Installer-file from "Overlord" (through right-click onto the specific file (note some visual feedback would be helpful there)), the program also clears the installer-file (but only the installer-file) from "Spellforce" which is next in line, but not yet downloaded. It can even happen that the Installer-file is being removed from the downloader while it is downloading. In which case the download will continue and all the installation-files are found in the folder, but there is no reference anymore in the downloader.

Any ideas?

Same problem today.

I rarely use the downloader as it's always had so many problems but, today, I'm downloading a large file. But....won't even connect as it crashes I immediately try to open it and I get the same error you're getting.

Windows 7 64 bit.
Well I've been using this on Windows 7 x64 for many revisions...To be honest the only part that seems messed up is the completed download...It never seems to complete it. Until I shut it down and reopen it then it's complete.
I would like to make a (another) feature request.

The Downloader could do with an option to restart/retry a download that failed or didn't start because of a lack of disk space. I have freed up enough space as well as changed the settings to another drive yet I cannot see a way to tell the Downloader to start downloading.

However closing and reopening the Downloader let it start.

An alternative it to display some message saying that a user should free some space or point to a new drive and then restart the Downloader.
MacPro 3,1 (209i), Os X 10.8.3, 16 GB RAM. I just downloaded the downloader v 1.2 and noticed a bad effect.

When I add a file like eg.The Witcher install file (rather big) via the browser, the downloader goes and gets the info on the file as it should but then something happens (no entries in either GOG.log or system log) and it starts to chew up all the memory on the machine. It takes ~1 min for the _Real_ memory (not virtual but real memory) to go from ~10GB free down to ~10MB free at which point the whole machine grinds to a halt and it gets very difficult to do anything even like quitting the downloader.

The first time this happened I reacted too late and the system took a hang report from the downloader. You can have that if you want but my guess is that it'll just show the program (as most of the other programs on the machine at this point) being unresponsive because the machine had run out of memory.

The weird thing is that this seems to happen only with the single file downloads. I also started the download for the bonus material and that is working fine sofar.

edit: I made a short video to show this effect at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ilow_DvxDo though it only shows graphically what I wrote down here.

Thanks for reporting, I'll have a look at it, first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll be able to reproduce the problem. Tried to reproduce it at home, here's the result: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hssVBFMHI-g. Nevertheless will try to find the cause of the problem in your case.

So I started having issues with the downloader 3.5.2 as it would crash after a few seconds of opening. I tried all recommended steps including .NET repair, redownload via different browsers etc. I found this thread and grabbed the 3.5.5.0 beta which gave this error on opening.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

----------------------------------------

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

However it is working, I'm downloading gothic 2 now. At first I thought it may be an issue with my system but since the beta seems smooth so far I'm more inclined to think it's the 3.5.2 downloader.

What would be helpful is the option to revert to last stable release or simply refuse the new versions if they are not absolutely essential. I'd much prefer to use an older version that I know is fine than wait and see if the beta version works.

I would't mind trying the beta out to give feed back but I have a small window of very slow internet connection per day I really just want to get my games down!

Cheers,
Chuck

Edit-Beta version has completed download. Some issue with 3.5.2 but it's beyond me.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

Fallen_Zen: Thanks for reporting, I'll have a look at it, first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll be able to reproduce the problem. Tried to reproduce it at home, here's the result: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hssVBFMHI-g. Nevertheless will try to find the cause of the problem in your case.
Hmm, yes, I can see it...I wonder whether it could be a matter of how I have set some options (in the system preferences or maybe other places) again just like last time I had problems with the downloader.

I changed the default downloads to an external disk if that matters. Other than that I played around with the no of concurrent downloads but that was to see whether it would work after I changed it from 3 (default) to 1.
Hello,

We've pushed a small update to the current windows beta version, which should fix an error with launching a second instance of the Downloader.

Regards,
Szulak

Are you downloading a game or a bonus content?

To add to what Szulak is saying, the installers do support resume, though the hash checking does say "Downloading", but it does that in 10MB chunks, and it should usually go faster than what you can actually download. Bonus content doesn't support resuming (yet), at least as far as I recall.
