What's going on here, then? MoO game is still being sold here, so who's doing naughty things, if any?

And Ultima I.

and cannon fodder 2.

and wasteland.

"Abandonware"
Anarchy!
Sounds shady.
I can't say the same for the others, but if I recall correctly from the store page here on GOG, isn't the version of Wasteland that they're selling a re-release? The one on IA is likely the original (which I've heard works a lot better in DOSBox than the rerelease here, but that's another story...)
There is no way they have legal permission to release all of those games. I support their preservation of old webpages, but this has gone too far, especially when some of these games are available for sale here on GOG!

And it's also misleading of the Washington Post not to mention legal issues surrounding this release.

Cannon Fodder 2 seems to have been added 2 weeks ago and is even available for direct download (not merely browser emulation), even if it's still sold by GOG. That's piracy, no matter how you cut it.
Yeah, that's so weird. Why did Washington post promote this?

That's my understanding of it, too. I had a quick look through IA and couldn't see any disclaimer other than usual BS about "respecting copyright".... :\

It can only happen in America:-)
Legality issues aside, I kinda got a kick outta playing some Wolfenstein 3D or Heretic in my browser. Pretty bad performance, though, at times, so there's room for improvement.

I got Wolf3D with my "Return To" disc. It has NOT aged well. :P

Yeah. I feel bad about it because I recently donated to IA because I really like the "wayback machine" part of their site.

But I just sent them an email telling them if this is the way they operate, I will no longer be donating. We'll see what their response is. They'll probably just ignore it.
This feels wrong, i mean i get what they are doing but this is not like some forgotten freeware or an old version before it went paid. These are games that developers put blood sweat and tears into.

I cant believe the Washington Post was so cavalier on this piece.
