It seems so. From preorder page:

This will get you the current version downloadable right away, and access to regular updates until the game is finished. You can pay with credit card or Paypal. You will receive an e-mail containing your personal license key that can be used to download all further Driftmoon versions.

Obvious drawback is that game is still in alpha stage so there are probably bugs, balance issues and unfinished or missing features. I probably will finally preorder it next week as this big update is finally out and I'll get money then.

Sorry it took so long to reply (dinner time). If I managed to complete Two worlds 2 (unpatched) where you had to cheat to do almost anything (open locked doors that a quest update should have allowed) then im sure that even in an alpha ill manage, and its good to help out and inform them of things that they may not be aware of.

Im concerned about the top down view but ill give it a shot.

Very good IMO only played an hour but yeah.

No problem, this is forum, not instant messanger or irc :-p. And I too have had my share of problems with bugs and near incompletable retail games over the years. It's unfortunately more of a rule than exception these days that games are released incomplete buggy mess and are later patched to be playable. Worst part is that devs often know about these bugs and release anyway and hope they can fix it later. In worst case, the game flops and devs are forced to work on something else to secure more funding or they go bankrupt and game never gets fixed (I've had couple of those too over the years).

If you were too concerned about top down view, you could have tried one of Ville's earlier freeware games. Both Magebane 2 and Notrium are top down (well Wazzal is too but it's space privateering game). It's years ago when I last played them but I remember quite enjoying them.

This looks like it might be fun, but... as others have mentioned, the extreme vertical perspective gives me a bit of vertigo. Not pleasant.

I could probably get used to it, though.

Try Notrium or Magebane 2. They are both nice little games made by Ville and both have same sort (there brobably are differences but still) of top down view. They're freeware.

I remember there being more games using this angle back in the C64/Amiga days. It was more or less replaced by isometric by mid 1990's. Very few games (beside top down shooters) use it these days.

I got this game the other day as said in an earlier post and its fooking awesome, Ville has got something good going on here. I thought the topdown view would be an issue but it isnt bad at all.

A couple of negatives.

1: its topdown so seeing what some enemies actually look like is impossible.
2: 1 item was hard to find (For me, this was a personal thing)
3: I found 1 spelling mistake

A big negative.

ITS NOT FINISHED, now ive got that far I wanna carry on :-(

I think Ill have a go at Notrium aswell.

I can understand that. If/when you are able id recommend it.

It looks like a really cool game. I'm likely to be in Europe for a good stretch starting later this year, being paid in Euros, and being able to buy in Euros, even with the VAT it would still be cheaper.

Being a student is cool in some ways, but it sucks not having any money.

How long did it take you to finish the game in it's current form? Did you encounter any bugs? How's the difficulty and controls?

Wazzal and Magebane 2 were good as well so you should give them a go as well. I've never had the time to try Bikez II but it looks nice as well and people who have played have said they liked it. Ville also made it public domain so you can do anything you want with it. I've yet to see any projects using the source so far though.

Technically it does.

According to the games internal clock 133 minutes for 5 areas, the areas arnt big but they're nicely designed.

The controls are fine numbers 1-9 for quick keys for items.
Function keys for some of the special attacks
Point and click for movement.
A few recipies for item creation (torches arrows ect)

The difficulty I cant really comment on, as its the first game from Ville I used the easy setting but I may replay it on a harder one.

As for bugs I came across 1 spelling mistake, THATS IT very stable for this early in its developement.

I looked at Magebane 2, I will probably try it too but wheres the first one?


As for the completion I shall add it to my list with an explanation.
