Sigma90: Blocked in Australia in case any other Australians are wondering why they are being redirected to a search page.

I have to wonder why Subverse is blocked but Hunie Pop is allowed (or at least, Hunie Pop doesn't take you to the search page.)

GOG, you could say the product is not available in your region instead of redirecting to a search page and making it look like your site has an error.
Couldn't agree more, would rather a page or display that gave a legitimate reason for not finding the page. At first I thought it was a gog link screwup which is not out of place on GOG, except I remebmered clicking on it earlier from work in my email and thought I'll check it out later from home.

I doubt the game is all that offensive, the most offensive thing we have in Australia are our politicans and we can't seem to block them out of existance.

pazZzurro: I could say the same thing about you. As anyone can tell, my post was a reply to someone expressing legitimate concerns about a game, that is expensive and (as you yourself have pointed out) early access.
Yeah, and you could have let the clips speak for themself, and people can make their own decision on that. You even state beforehand that you do not wish to influence them in either direction, which is total crap based on what you said. Instead though, you come in with your own brand of elitist bullshit sprinkled on top stating how unfunny it is, facepalm worthy, and whatever else you said. "If anyone finds this amusing they're immature for liking what I think is complete garbage." That's basically is what you said.

But yea, you keep thinking you're doing everyone a huge favor here with that garbage you said by warning everyone on what they probably already expected to be in the game. I mean, anyone who's even looked at the game, watched a trailer, or are familiar with Studio FOW already has an idea of what to expect. It's one thing to actually leave some actual information that might help someone, but that's not what you did at all.

Darvond: But we already have Tyrian 2000. :p
Tyrian 2000 is a different kind of porn - retro arcade and midi demoscene porn :P.

avatar
pazZzurro: No matter how you look at it, this is very low humour (by definition, as oppossed to, lets say, Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams).
I'd call it "adolescent" humor, but I agree it's not even trying to go beyond that level. There's self-deprecation in there as well, which does give it some charm, but it is what it is. This is typically Studio FOW's style and nobody should expect more from their games I think. That doesn't make Subverse a "low quality game", but its tone is certainly not going to be down everyone's alley. It's certainly not of Chateau Proneaux 1890 pedigree :P.

avatar
pazZzurro: The dialogues are the absolute facepalm material, they are not funny, they just make you grit your teeth.
You're clearly not an Austin Powers fan then, are you? :P

I'm OK with the humor, it's "fine" and amusing in its own over-the-top-no-pretenses way. My own complaints issue from a personal preference of normal sized breasts. What's with all the chungus tits, guys? These ladies are going to have serious back aches...

Most men like big titties and ass though. It is what it is. We're currently in the booty age, but breast men still exist.

Fair enough - I think that's a fair assessment. I'm not a fan of Hugh Jazz either.

The pirate-demoness-vampire-girl (Killi) looks about right (still a bit on the overly sexed-up chart, but not too much), so there's that at least :P. Arrrrrrrrr!

Au contraire!
I adore Austin Powers. As a matter of fact I personally consider that one scene from Goldmember (you know... medical check-up with Austin and Mini-me) as probably the funniest scene in the history of cinema! :D
But Austin Powers had some context to its humour. I don't get that vibe from Subverse - for me at least it's emotionless. Maybe it's the presentation of it. Who knows? No matter, I probably won't be enjoying the game, but that does not mean no one else can. Hell, I like to watch kiddie Tokusatsu shows, so what do I know? ;P

You have a problem. You misinterpret everything anyone else says. You act self-rightous. And you're higly agressive. I'm not the first person you bash in this topic for no reason. I don't see the need to converse with you anymore.
Abusing others for having different tastes has long gone out of fashion... even on the internet.

Well, it's essentially a parody of itself and of past overly-sexualized space SF horror B-movie type stories of the 70s, and of more recent space opera style games I'd say, at least naratively, but it's very in your face about it, true, there's no finesse here, only a race of flying cock ships. You'd better not let them cum too close! :P (*pre-recorded audience laughter*)

If you don't want anyone misinterpreting what you say then don't say anything that could be misinterpreted. I don't believe there was a misinterpretation on my part though. This is just you back pedalling and playing the victim card now, and making up things up by claiming you were bashed an abused.

In the past I found that discussing comedy is a very hard topic. It all boils down to what you do or don't get. I have a friend at work who talked with me about Fargo (the movie). I liked the movie, but didin't find it fenomenal. Suddenly he tells me that I didin't get it, cause it's a comedy, and Cohen's often (either secretly or openly) insert comedy aspects to their movies. True enough, I did not find Fargo funny, but he swears that it's hilarious... It's just me who doesn't get the context.

Concerning Subverse, I did in the past watch a few of those "overly-sexualized space SF horror B-movie type stories of the 70s", and could agree that to some extent it's present in the game (but not as plainly as in, let's say, "I am not a Monster"), but I see it more as a self-parody of the more recent hentai games and movies.

I think you are going way too far with this with this, defending us poor idiots from oppinionated post. Being impartial on some issue is incredibly hard. The OP did contain some judgement, but also enough material to let people make their own decision if it is accurate. I think it was reasonable response to my question. I don't know about *huge* favour, but it certainly helped me.

Personally, I think I'll just keep waiting for now. Not because of the humour, I could probaly get over that if other parts of the game were well done. I do have thick skin. Hell, I already 100%ed Succubus. But I guess for me things have to make at least some sense, some story connection to explain why it is happening. Making story heavy game, and then buying sex scenes with no connection to the story?? WTF. I didn't watch the whole 5h gameplay, it's absurdly overloaded with ads, but all signs point to the ability to buy them even for characters that are your enemies in the story (though I guess they make some hoops and allow you to recruit them eventually, why spend so much resources on them otherwise?). I'll see where this goes, but my hopes are way lower than after it was announced few weeks ago.

Hey, a lot of those toku shows are far from kiddie. I own a lot of the Sentai boxes and man, what they didn't show! There's a lot of stuff in there that the 90's censors would have had a fit about. Good stuff though, of course the adult toku would be Garo.

Wow! That's right, you are from the US. How i envy you – Shout! released all those older Super Sentai over there. A shame they won't work with European DVDplayers or else I would import them long ago.
I did watch a few of those though - Gingaman, GoGo Five, Timeranger...

Usually there'a a way to turn european DVD players codefree so that you would be able to play region 1 DVDs as well.

Cool. Thanks for the tip! I guess I'll look into it then some time in the future ;)

I'm actually happy that there are still some B-games in an age where everything is, wants or pretends to be Triple A and where the few B titles are so obscure that you rarely ever find decent B-games. Subverse is fine as it is. It's a trashy B-style space opera. It certainly doesn't reach the charm of - for example - the old Resident Evil games with their trashy B-style action movie charm, but I do enjoy it for what it is (though strangely enough, the tacked-on erotic content is what feels kinda weird while the gameplay itself is fine).
