mike_cesara: no clue why keep this in secret..

tinyE: What are you stupid!? Can you imagine what would happen if the Russians found out about this!?
Russians already knew that in 50's..
Thank you for the heads-up, mrkgnao. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would've been looking at my wishlist and wondering why it was down one.
Given all the work you do for GOG, you should try negotiating to at least get some game codes out of the deal. You're essentially a skilled but unpaid employee, and have been for quite some time.

They should have a policy like other platforms that states "1 week's notice before removing games no matter the license issues". GOG is slow on everything except for things like these, where they act lightning fast. What are the other departments doing? :/

It's only possible if there's a transfer of ownership, when one company sells its asset to another company (or goes bankrupt), and the asset happens to be burdened by a legit "sell it here for two years" obligation. The obligation is void if the license issue is "you didn't have the right to sell it in the first place".

mrkgnao: In case you hadn't noticed, Simon the Sorcerer 4: Chaos Happens is gone from GOG's catalogue.
Here we go again... I guess the comments regarding the Superfrog titles in the "What did just update" thread made no difference.

If only there were a way to make a "Games pulled that mrkgnao let us know about instead of GOG" GOGmix show on game pages.
I just receive a replay from Headup Games and they seem to confirm they no longer hold the rights for the game.

That was rather quick, I thought it was under a year since it joined Gog? yes indeed just under a year

mistermumbles: Heh. I've totally forgotten that it even existed on GOG. No big loss to me then, I guess. *shrug*

Breja: Not a loss for me either, but the "stealth removal" issue in itself is a problem for everyone I think. I seriously can't believe thsese things happen so fast GOG can't warn us at least 12 hours in advance. And if they can't they could at least officialy inform us after the fact. Unfortunately GOG continues to have the communication skills of a roadkill beaver.
I wonder if there are legal reasons GoG needs to stay mum. It would be nice if they would at least confirm/deny whether that is the case.

Did they say who holds the rights now?

No, they suggest I contact Adventuresoft (which I presume hold the IP right to the series), currently await to hear from them.
Considering it is a horrible game, no one will be missing a thing.
GOG probably signed a non-disclosure agreement contract so they can't tell anything, until the holder decides to, or at least that's what I hope they did, because I don't see other reason to be quiet then.

Maybe they're conducting a social experiment. "Will they miss a crappy game like this if it just disappears?"
Anyhow, the game is awful (not as awful as 3D as someone mentioned, but still crap) and it WON'T be missed by most, probably only by OCD completionists. The point is that it disappeared without warning, something that GOG avoids doing usually. In most cases, they give warning, and it's the right way to go. Just removing a game from the catalogue WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER just ain't right.
I bought this as soon as it came out because I knew it wouldn't last long.

The game is supposedly very bad - haven't played it yet - so sales were likely to & probably have been, horrible.

I just bought it because it's a Simon game & if I have 3D, well... this one can't be much worse... can it?

I'm exaggerating, of course. Simon 3D has excellent writing, it's the graphics that stop me from playing it, the artwork makes my eyes bleed.

I know more about what goes on in GOGland through mrkgnao than anyone else.

They should just hire him.

I'd assume any such policy on other digital goods stores refers to giving at least 1 week's notice before removing games from the accounts of people who've purchased them (should it become necessary), not before removing them from the store. And If there are stores which actually DO have official policies stating that they'll always give customers notice before a game is removed from sale, please let us know which stores those are. : )
