That's an option too but I learned that though I'm a good programmer I'm terrible at organising.

And to make money in the long run you have to create something awesome ;) I'd just prefer to have a separate steady income first.

I'm the exact opposite. Glad there are non-programming options to success these days though. :D

I didn't mention in the giveaway page that I'm the co-author of one of the games in the bundle because I was afraid it would look I'm spamming to advertise my own game, especially since I wasn't as active on the forums back then.

As for this thread, it just so happened that in all that wall of text the game's name wasn't mentioned once :S. I've edited it now.

There was one on this forum that mentioned a law or effect that often when people are so inspired by something they grew up with, they instead ended up being blinded by their own work, and released something worse. We humans have a strange tendency to not being objective enough about what we have worked on for a longer period.

Many I know started their gamemaking career by building on their experience by starting small and giving it away, and gradually worked their way up to a full blown game before even attempting to make money out of it.

I'm honestly not shocked here. Gold really makes one blind.

Great idea, concept and music, and I really commend you and you co-workers for trying to make something you dream of... I'm all for that. But were are you so dense as to claim this buggy game as "finished" in the first place for that amount of money? You should also have checked the source and squashed the worst bugs before even releasing it again. Add to the fact that virustotal flags it makes most people vary about even checking it out. It only infuriates the user and makes YOUR GAME look even worse. I don't doubt that you're a good programmer, however, as a programmer you should know these things.

Since you decided to go public with this game you really should be prepared for critique, although the part about the one who constantly followed you isn't a one case phenomena, sadly.

However if you really finished and polished it I might actually buy it because I think the idea is kinda cool, but not anywhere near the amount you originally wanted.

How about if it is free? Is free cheap enough for you? :P

This post has gotten me thinking of the upcoming game Dreams. While I feel most people will use it to show off paintings or music videos, I get the feeling quite a few budding game developers will come out of it.

Maybe I didn't convey it properly, but the thread title was meant as a tongue in cheek. I'm not "releasing" this game again. This was just meant as a "here is the first painting I made as a kid" thread, show off something that I made, and share a story. I haven't posted this outside GOG and don't intend to share it with the general public.

Oh, I agree, selling it back then, in the state it was, was a terrible decision. Of course it's easy for me to say it now from a 5 year perspective; back then we were just caught in the moment.

Hehe! Maybe I shouldn't have stretched it so far in "lecturing" your old mistakes like a pedantic "father". Maybe using the /s is not a bad idea, but often it ruins the whole fun in things.

But in a sense you are re-releasing the game here publicly for free (anywhere outside your personal pc is considered the public zone), and you do seem eager to fix it...

Your analogy is too far off the mark to be applicable here, but I'll bite anyway: iff I was married to her; the STD knowledge doesn't play into that particular decision either way.
