So, I guess it's time to go download everything we haven't yet backed-up from there?

Shadowstalker16: IGN can't afford to not cover those games, but their coverage will be marred by that conflict of interest. Whatever they say about a game, it will always be over the fact that they stand to benefit from being positive about a game on the humble store or bundles.

markrichardb: In some cases we're talking about subsidiaries of global mega corporations. Surely when IGN was owned by News Corp it must have been reviewing and promoting products made by other companies News Corp owned on a weekly basis.
Not sure what your point is, News Corp. owns a bunch of newspapers, not game publishers.

CharlesGrey: Hum, if they go Steam-only they'll no longer be relevant to me ( and to most other people, I figure )[...]

Yes, because no one uses Steam.

... Or maybe I'm talking about the fact that you can acquire Steam keys in any number of other places, including... Steam.
well now.

can't wait for the 1-2 combo of media and merchandising. y'all ready for the puff pieces timed with the bundles? "Looking back on [ENTER BUNDLE PARTICIPANT #4 NAME HERE], one of the most under-appreciated [ENTER BUNDLE PARTICIPANT #4 GENRE HERE]s"

imagine the package deals for shipping publishers. got a new game coming out? is this your first game ever? no? let's have a chit chat amigo. let's have a dandy little chit chat.

I used to think of john graham kind of like a gaben or an iwi. but now maybe not dunno really
Interesting news.
At least for me, it means that Humble Bundle "tips" in future purchases at the HB site will be set to Zero.
The past few purchases I've made from HB site have been ebooks, or audiobooks, not games.

you do realise that "most people" use Humble to get Steam keys.... so what will change?

muntdefems: until IGN starts feeling that Humble's operating costs are too high and they should start cutting some corners. The next thing you know, they aren't hosting DRM-free downloads any more. Hope I'm wrong...
^ That's the first thing that sprung to my mind too. Fortunately, my beloved DRM-free Bioshock 1 installer is already triple backed up. Just in case IGN pulls the plug under the obvious fake lie of "down due to temporary maintenance" (as they did when they permanently deleted the entire previous NWN modding community without warning)...

Yeah they could have been, but this is much more blatant and obvious, to the point where I think more people would question it. Of course that may have been innocent promotion, but this could very well be much more shady.

Shadowstalker16: Expect more console bundles and less good indie games, and more shitty bundles with games like Gone Home.
good. I really liked Gone Home, and we need more innovative and experimental indie games like this to push the limits of gaming forward. So if this is the outcome, then I guess I will be looking forward to it.
rest in peace humble bundle hope ign treat you good! bought lots of cheap bundles from their sites.

well the big question is.. who's gonna acquire Gog in near distant future? *wink*

Here's to the Gone Home only bundle then.
Humble Bundle, Inc. Privacy Policy September 14, 2017

"If Humble Bundle or substantially all of its assets are acquired, or in the unlikely event that Humble Bundle goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Humble Bundle may continue to use your Personal Information as set forth in this policy."

http://gonewiththewin.com/why-humble-bundle-sold-out-itself-and-over-100-million-customers/

"if you look closely at the Humble Bundle privacy policy, the extent of the reach is clear. Not only did they sell browsing history, purchase history, demographic data—they also sold some very niche data that dovetails neatly into how ads work on IGN. If a user attached their Steam account, Humble Bundle just sold all the data collected in relation to their Steam holdings and usage. The same holds true for Battle.net and other linked third-party services."
Is this the same IGN that stabbed Gamespy in the heart and then wrote articles blaming it on Glu Mobile after selling the servers to them?

What could go wrong?

That's still not even gonna begin to hurt them, though. The majority of people who use Humble are just fine with and even WANT the Steam keys. You guys (the people of the GOG forum) may look at them as "sweet, another place I can buy DRM-free games", but most people are thinking "sweet, a place where I can buy a crapton of games at a cheap price". If I'm a fan of indies, why would I buy a game on a Steam sale for $5 or whatever when I can wait for a bundle to pop up and buy not only that for $5, but also 4 other games as well?

a bundle with only one game is not much of a bundle, though. Maybe a bundle with Gone Home, Scanner Sombre, Dear Esther, Vanishing of Ethan Carter and a couple more? (though I got all of them... )
