Hello all,

The last few years a game has popped into my consciousness now and then. I cannot recall it's name and it is reallly starting to get annoying. I bought it for about £2 at a gamestore in 2000-ish. It was a few years old then and looked to me like it might be a hidden gem at the time. A couple of weeks before i had bought Incubation at the same store for about the same amount, so I had high hopes for this RTS as well. I remember some aspects and i would love to get your help identifying it.

1. It was an RTS. Medieval. No magic or dragons that I can remember.
2. I think there was some slightly advanced troop movement options. Like waypoint, stance, formation etc.
3. It might have come out in '97 or around that time.
4. I THINK it had "Reign" in the title, but internet-searches has not yielded results.
5. The graphics were quite good for the time, I think. Similar to Red Alert but darker and more realistic.
6. The game was not particularly good. It had some interesting ideas but It didn't hold my attention for very long.

Because of that final point it's strange that I have this need to figure out what the name was etc. but i HAVE to play it again.. For some strange reason. Please help!

No, none of those. Both are classics. Great games. But it's newer and "fancier" then powermonger. Probably a windows title. More similar to Stronghold but without the castlebuilding. It was a wargame where you train and move troops around. Like in C&C and Warcraft.

Majesty? Came out in early 2000 if I recall correctly. Although that was more sims-ish.
Lords of the Realm II? Warlords III?

Or maybe Rising Lands?

Given the OP's guess of 1997 as release year, I doubt that he's looking for a DOS game.
:( Still none of the above, although quite a few of those look very interesting. Can't believe I've never seen Conqueror or Kingmaker before.
do you remember any of the units within the game?

How about... Knights and Merchants?

elendiel7: do you remember any of the units within the game?
Yes, I remember there being foot soldiers, archers and cavalry. Also i think there were siege-units. Catapults and siege-towers. I also think there might have been some screen where you choose where to move your troops, again similar to Red Alert. I don't remember if you actually build buildings and train troops to be honest, but I don't remember there NOT being the opportunity to do so. Which is what I think would have made an impression at the time.

No not that either. I'm sure that it's not a game that is on GOG. It must be a fairly unknown game as I have never seen it since my copy disappeared.:P Not on the internet and not in any magazine. I read quite a few PC and Amiga magazines during the 90s and this game never showed up in any of them. :/

Rising Lands?

It's definitely pretty obscure. Mobygames doesn't even hava a proper screenshot (only the title screen)

Rising Lands was mentioned earlier, but looking more closely at the screenshot it has made me realise that there is something off about the perspective. I think that the game I'm thinking about has a direct overhead perspective. Like that in M.A.X. Or almost directly ahead. I think it reminded me of the early kick-off games perspective-wise.
