Not sure if that fits to your description but... Polanie or Victory (I think that's how the game is called outside of Poland). Definitely an obscure game ;)

The resolution is too low. Have you played that game? Looks like a Warcraft-clone. Is it any good?
That really sounds like Lords of the Realm to me.
Vlad Tepes Dracula?

Well... it's difficult to say - the game has some good ideas e.g. the only resource is milk which you get from cows (now, that's surprising) but eventually it becomes very boring. Every mission is pretty much the same: build the wall around your base ASAP (enemy units do not attack the wall!), produce as many units as you may - crush your opponent. I kinda enjoyed it but it is a Polish game so perhaps I was biased... Polanie 2 (aka. "Once upon a Knight" or "Knightshift"), however, is a pretty decent game.

Smannesman: Vlad Tepes Dracula?
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!! That's IT! :D Thank you, Smannesman! And thanks to everyone! As I said in the first post; I've been wondering about this on and off for years ! :D

Now I just have to find it somewhere and get it running on WIN8 :P
Warrior Kings?

EDIT: Nevermind :p

Sounds like it made the same errors as so many other RTS's. :/

Yeah but the game was developed by a few students living in a dorm. AFAIR they did everything by themselves even voice acting - that is actually the most hilarious part: they couldn't afford a professional studio so they recorded everything in their rooms but first they covered themselves with a few blankets to reduce noises. Funny, isn't it? Nowadays it would be call "indie"...

The sequel, however, was developed by Reality Pump (Two Worlds series, Earth 2140/50/60 series)

Anyway, I'm glad Smannesman found your game

Oh dear lord! I never thought I'd see the mention of this horrible Warcraft ripoff again.

If you haven't done so yet then please read the explanation above (i.e. here) then perhaps (just perhaps) the game won't seem to be so horrible anymore ;) It will still be a pretty bad game, I admit, but it's just a student work so it cannot be treated as it was AAA title.

Oh, I know it was a pretty low (non-existent?) budget game. Got it as a freebie on some gaming mag CD looong ago. Still... the horror! =P
